ASGARD GENESIS - TEST DRIVE #1

Anyone can post to the test drive meme, including duplicates! Please put your character name and canon in the title of your comment.
All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)!
If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You only need to provide seven comments if you use TDM samples.
You can't be "late" to a TDM! This will be considered open until the next one goes live next month.
You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below!
You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead.
If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. If you aren't sure exactly how to do this, you can always ask a mod.

❧ optional scenario.
As you enter Asgard proper, many of the natives have gathered into curious crowds to greet these mysterious children of the World Tree. Some of them carry baskets of flowers and nervously offer one to any Wanderers that come near. They are vibrant and colorful, picked from the wilds surrounding Asgard, and they might have an odd effect on your character if they sniff the flowers directly.

Purple flowers will make your character very giggly and easily amused by everything they see and hear.
Orange flowers will make your character feel very warm all over, like the sun is beating down on them directly.
Blue flowers will make your character somewhat short and impatient with anything that seems like even a minor inconvenience to them.

Effects of the flowers can wear off anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. And for those new to Asgard, this scenario aligns with some of the general curses we might have in the game!

Well, I asked if I could look at it, you never said no, and then you let me look at it, so I did!

[ Just gestures baffled...ly at him ]

[ Not even said with any sass, he's still very sincerely explaining how this works. :') ]

[ Oh my god he gives up. ]

I'm gonna get a headache.

[ Oh no! ]

Are you okay? Do you need to sit down?

[ Honir raises his hand and a comfortable lounge chair appears right behind Rhys, close enough that he could just fall right into it. ]

[ Just blissfully unaware of that for now. ]

No, no, I'm fine. I just ... I'm not really sure what to think about all this. It's not actually that hard for me to understand everything that happened back home, it just escalated really fast, but this is a whole ... I swear I must have hit my head or something. I'm probably in a coma. That'd make sense. Maybe.

How would that make sense? I mean, I don't know if you hit your head or not, but you are definitely awake and alive right now.

I like the alive bit. Not so much the awake bit.

[ He's not convinced though. Why would his coma dream tell him anything other than that he's totally awake?

If coma dreams are even a thing. He actually doesn't know. Maybe being in a coma is a verse scenario than being here for real. ]

Look, if you really are gods, you don't happen to be able to check that my friends are okay?

[ Would he believe it if they said they could? Hell if he knows. ]

[ He chews the inside of his lip for a second, like he doesn't really want to say it again, but - ]

I mean -

[ the thing with the soul and the - ]

[ He sighs, and kind of. Slumps a little. Ugh. Is it worth it? Can he actually trust that Honir would tell him the truth? Would Honir dig around further if he's given permission? Does Rhys truly care what the guy sees?

It doesn't even really make a difference if he can't trust it for sure, does it? ]

Never mind.

[ Oh no. :( ]

I'm sorry. I could tell you a lie if it would make you feel better, but I'm not very good at it.

[ For starters: maybe don't tell them you're lying. ]

Yyyyeah, I can tell.

I can try to help with something else though! If you want to know about anything else, or - I already got you a seat, I could get you a food too?

[ Wait, a seat?

He frowns incredulously, and looks back. Oh. That's a chair. How did it...? You know what. He won't question it. He'll just. Sit down. And stares up at Honir for a couple of seconds. ]

Has anyone ever told you you're weird?

[ This, at least, makes Honir laugh delightedly. It is a bright and happy sound, as obvious as it could be that he takes that as a compliment far more than an insult. ]

I will hear it for all of my days, friend. They do call me the God of Whimsy, after all.

[ And he will conjure up another identical chair to sit in himself, quite pleased. ]

[ Excuse him, he just has to stare at that chair for a while.

This will be how he reacts to any and all magic for at least a week probably. ]

[ Honir stares at him staring at the chair. Tilts his head. Leans curiously towards him. This one is so strange! ]

Did your other eye break too?

[ Well, this is the most compelling argument that they're actually dealing with gods that he's ever seen. Not that he's ... ever met a god. Handsome Jack probably likes to think of himself as such but-- He doesn't count. Seriously, where did that chair even come from?

Surely this is actually just a dream?

Rhys takes a deep breath, and runs a hand over his face again, before he just. Slumps back against the chair. ]

Yeah. Okay. Sure.

[ OKAY. He'll just go along with this then. ]

[ The summoning of a couch did it for him? Oh, Rhys. If only you knew.

And if only Honir did too. He still could, quite easily, but it's far more amusing to watch the human's reactions as they play out. ]

Sure as in... yes? Do we need to get you two new eyes? I think we can do that.

[ Probably??? ]

Uh. No. That's not what I-- No, my other eye's fine.

[ He waves his hand a bit. ]

You wanna know about me? Go ahead. Ask about me.

[ Doesn't mean he'll answer everything, but since they're sitting down now ... Well. He's just. Tired. ]

[ A distraction! Well played, Rhys. ]

Oh! Okay!

[ Honir sits up excitedly in his seat, making enough space to summon a table between them. Then two teacups and a kettle clatter into place. A second later, the kettle wheezes a little puff of steam, and lifts up to fill both cups before settling back down on the table.

Honir leans on the arm rest of his seat with a curious smile. ]

So tell me about the last few days!

[ roll: tales ep1??? ]

[ This time he at least only stares at the table for a couple of seconds before snapping out of it.

Honestly, can these gods just conjure up whatever they wanted? Wow. Imagine having that kind of power. That'd be handy. ]

Right. Going straight for the long story. Okay. Background info: Where I'm from, humans live on a bunch of different planets. There's one called Pandora that's ... honestly a terrible place. Lots of nasty things there that wanna kill you. But people go there because it's got this thing called eridium that's really valuable, and these other things called vaults. Vaults are basically like ... caves filled with treasure, or so the stories go anyway. But you need a vault key to get into a vault, and vault keys are either really difficult to find or really expensive.

This, uh, story - my story - starts with a vault key.

[ You have no idea, Rhys. ]

Ooh, so you found a treasure to lead you to more treasure. Now that sounds like an adventure!

[ Honir is completely enraptured already, please tell us everything. ]

Something like that.

Anyway, I work for this company called Hyperion. It's full of assholes, but it's good money. I was getting promoted by my boss, Henderson, to take his place, except when I got to his office - I'm getting to the vault key, by the way - Henderson wasn't there. Instead I found this guy named Vasquez, who's one of the worst people I've ever met and who keeps trying to screw me over, and he's taken my job. Or, well, Henderson's job, technically, but it was gonna be mine!

So he's there, spinning around in his chair like some evil overlord. All that's missing is a stupid laugh and, like, a cat. And-- This is on a space station, by the way, and I dunno what you know about space, but generally you wanna stay out of it. So this bastard Vasquez decided he wanted Henderson's job and just ... chucked him into space and took it.

[ Are you having fun yet, Honir? ]

[ Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately), time means very little to an immortal creature. Honir has all the patience in the worlds, and looks no less enthusiastic about this story than when it began. ]

Wow! This Vasquez sounds like a rude one! I'm sorry to hear about your Henderson friend.

[ Frienderson? Honir snorts a laugh into his hand, then goes right back to waiting excitedly for the rest of the story. ]
