MONTHLY TEST-DRIVE!

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

• OPTIONAL SCENARIO: After your character receives his or her bracelet and the run-down from the faceless maids in the castle, they may realize that Asgard is, for the moment, completely overrun with furry animals! The city's natives are busy trying to herd cats and dogs out of the streets, the park is thronged with friendly and curious rabbits, and a small army of capybaras seems to have started a parade around the castle. Something is going on -- the natives seem exasperated as anything. Help them out? Adopt a ferret? Try to wade through goats to make it to your welcome house? At least they're non-aggressive.. for now!

[It's been a while since Alvin's landed in a new world. Then again, he knows most people haven't had that experience. It doesn't take a genius to work out that he's probably one of a kind here. Or maybe one of a few kinds. It's not like he's polled the population—he just got here, too.]

Don't sweat it, kid.

[He waves it off.]

And it's going all right. But I'm wondering when we'll be on clean up duty.

[There is one man who is currently up to his waist in miniature ponies. At first he tried to move through them but he gave up and is currently going with the herd to -- well, who knows where? He certainly doesn't. If they were big enough to hold his weight you can bet Wash would be riding one.]

[While he doesn't appear panicked, there is definite confusion on his face. Mostly he's focusing on not getting trampled by the tiny-sized animals.]

This isn't exactly what I pictured the afterlife to be like.

[Wash pauses as he considers it and tilts his head with a hm sound and a "I'll take it" face.]

Could be worse.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

[I hope no one in Asgard was planning on sleeping.

A little girl screaming bloody murder and wielding a small chainsaw (oh God someone take that away from her it's running and she'll cut her head off streaking around like this) barrels through the street, tears streaking down her dirty face and her dress stained red.]

HELP! FATHER!

[This certainly isn't where Clementine expected to end up. She just curled up to sleep in an old barn, remembering Lee's words of caution about staying in the city. Yet when she wakes up, well. This definitely wasn't the barn.

She's not sure what to make of this, rather scared and uncertain of the faceless maids and their instructions of sorts. The nine year old wanders, cautious at the crowd, especially initially. But none of them appear to be walkers. She can hear voices, talking. At first she wonders if this is some sort of dream. Going to a place without walkers is more than any of them could have hoped for.

Gun in her pocket still, she explores, keeping an eye out for any familiar faces. Surely some might be around, if this is a dream of sorts, right? She hardly dares to hope to find Lee, at the very least. Or her parents. But that might be too much to hope for, considering everything, even if this might be a dream. Certainly it's likely that she draws attention through her cap and the obvious gun shape in her hoodie pocket, still seeming rather on edge at the crowds, her clothes still stained a bit in spite of her attempts to clean herself up.]

[ooc: Let me know if anyone doesn't want spoilers. I'm still majorly waffling on this idea but figure it couldn't hurt.]

[Akihiko was out on one of his usual runs, when he passed by a young boy holding a cat up to his face. That wasn't unusual in itself, but the boy seemed to be... asking the cat a question?]

[Granted, Akihiko himself had just talked to a cursed talking pumpkin... puppet... thing... recently, but animals were another story. So he slowed down and approached the boy with a calm expression, trying not to startle him too much.]

Uh... I don't think so, unless you can meow back at the little guy. Did it... talk to you or something?

[As far as Taichi's concerned, speaking to animals in a normal world isn't even a skill that can be acquired. But then again, the Digimon were kind of like animals, so maybe somehow that made him privy to the secret language of the animals.

...it makes sense to him, and he's sticking to that story.]

They can't be that shy if they're all out wandering around like this. [He flashes Alvin a brief grin but he's not putting the cat down.] Is it really a language people can master though?

[To his credit he only stares for a few minutes. Green monsters, sure. Green women...not so much. But the bunny seems to trust her and in his limited view of the world? Bunnies don't trust bad guys.]

What do you mean you checked? [He nods toward the rabbit.] Maybe it's just him.

[Oh hello there Akihiko. Taichi doesn't seem too bothered seeing how he's busy still keeping his eyes locked on the cat. The cat, of course, isn't very impressed.]

No, but they're creatures of the gods, right? Shouldn't they be able to talk or have cool powers or something?

No, it isn't just him. None of them can talk, trust me on that.

[She should know, she had a talking goat for a teacher for a while. That none of the animals here can talk is a bit unsettling--were they born that way, or was this world not as different from Oz as she first thought?]

He's taking the time to look around, to explore and get to know his new surroundings. A part of him wants to be scared, to fret over the fact that no one will be at the microphone when it is time to do the show, but he pushes it out of his mind for the moment.

Because really? This is kind of fascinating.

Things like this aren't unheard of in Night Vale, people disappearing and appearing again isn't strange in the least. However, there has never been any business with gods and the like. That's the pat that is striking him as more than a little peculiar.

There are animals here, all manner of them scattered around the city, and he finds himself crouching down, trying to lure a dog closer to him. he holds out one hand, smiling and waiting patiently for the creature to come closer.]

[It's always hard to miss the new people, when they come-they seem to come about the beginning of every month, although there are a few stragglers that come later.

Anyway, the new people always have that same, lost look. So easy to notice if you're looking for it, which Ichigo always did. Even though he looked like he would rather punch your lights out than give you the time of day, he made sure to help those that needed it.

And right now, it looked like this little girl needed some help. Taking the hood of his black hoodie down so she could see his eyes, he quietly walked up to her, taking in her condition. A little dirty, and...nah, that couldn't be what he thought it was in her pocket.]

Hey there. You new here?

[When he gets close enough, he'll lean down to be on her level.]

[...Well, that is weird as hell. Thankfully, Jayne hasn't got a single pony or furry critter on him. Yet]

[He does settle for laughing at Wash's pain]

[Had Akihiko known that Taichi didn't even bothering listening to the complete message - dumb as the pictures were - then he would have told him to turn on the bracelet right then and there.

Fortunately, his typical oblivious nature tended to help him out of his such situations on occasion.]

It doesn't quite work like that... The gods gave you a new power when you came in, like everyone else. I don't know if they have enough leftover to start handing out some to the animals too.

Bummer. [The cat's wriggling in his arms, but he's keeping a grip on him for a moment.] What's the point of bringing in normal animals?

[OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK

Welp, that's going to net one very concerned teenager swooping in to help-and you know, grabbing her wrist to try to get to her to drop the chainsaw before she hurts someone or hurts herself.]

Whoa, Whoa! Calm down!

[Yeah that's sure gonna help, Ichigo.]

[On the one hand, cool, someone is kind of explaining things! On the other hand, bummer. What a letdown. He'd kind of gotten used to talking monsters and adventures.]

Yeah, I heard. [He's shifting the cat around to get ahold of his bracelet and take a closer look.] I dunno. I guess I kinda expected something bigger than normal animals and a big city.

[Tzao gao. Of all the... Of course it would be Jayne.]

[Wash points towards the laughing man.]

Sic 'em boys.

[The ponies just stand there.]

It was worth a shot.

[Still, there had to be someway to mess with Jayne. Ding!]

You were the last person I expected to see in miniature mammal hell, Jayne. But, if you've died too...

I think most of them are from here in the first place.

[She absently pets the bunny in her arms.]

[Clementine pauses at the voice, uncertain when he seems to be approaching her specifically, wary of the hood. She doesn't like not seeing a person's face, not after the walkers. It doesn't seem like there are any around, but she is still in the habit of being cautious.

She seems to consider him for a moment when he pulls back the hood and leans down to her level before giving a nod in affirmation. And on closer inspection, that really really is a suspiciously gun-shaped item in her pocket now he's getting a better look at her.]

I just woke up here.

[She swings around to face him. While holding her live chainsaw.

Ichigo. Don't grab people with running power tools.]

NO!

[Before she ends up burying her chainsaw into someone's stomach, she jerks her arms up with a shriek, and if Ichigo doesn't move fast, she will accidentally take off his arm.

SOMEONE GET THE CHAINSAW AWAY FROM HER!]

[Taichi, go meet our resident cursed talking pumpkin puppet. He will make you not want any other animals to talk.]

Bigger? [Akihiko quirked a brow at him, interpreting his statement a certain way.] If you mean a tougher challenge, then you don't have to worry about that! I'm sure we'll get into another fight with the giants soon enough. Just make sure you practice your new ability before it happens, so you won't get left behind in the dust!

Kids wander around all the time. It doesn't mean they always talk to strangers.

[In a round about way, he means it as a spoken assessment of this kid's personality. He won't say a lot about what he's thinking, sure, but there is that.]

And sure. There are some. Not me, oh no, I wouldn't bother with something like that.

[Not that Alvin is expecting him to ask if he can do it, but he doesn't want to have to explain all of it, and hopes that's just enough to put the kid off that line of thought.]

[ The Commodore nudges aside a small herd of inquisitive bunnies with the polished toe of one shoe. He first thought he'd inexplicably taken ill, perhaps worried himself sick in pursuit of the Pearl and the captive Miss Swann, but that idea has since faded into the ether. It would certainly have gone a long way in making sense of this whole mess.

Not in the habit of having to pick his way gingerly among a menagerie of animals (weevils in too-old hard tack notwithstanding), James pulls the hem of his blue military coat out of biting range of a particularly persistent billy goat and forges onward, shooing furry creatures out of his way. Might as well see just where he's billeted. ]

This is patently ridiculous.

If they were already here then how come the gods didn't just give them new powers to fight for them? [Sorry Elphaba. You have a kid who asks a lot of questions...but he's also a little envious that the bunny's being calm while the cat's still squirming.]

[Is he anything like Pumpkinmon? Ah, never mind.]

Wait a minute, what giants? [Nope. That wasn't exactly what he meant, but now you've definitely got his attention Akihiko. Come on, spill it.]
