monthly test drive!!

THE TEST DRIVE MEME
• Got a character you're thinking of reserving/apping this round? PUT THEM HERE! • Threads here can count as your third person sample! • Comment with your character's name and canon! • Make up your own scenario or have them walk into all the doors or leave it blank for others to do it for you! • OPTIONAL SCENARIO: After your character receives his or her bracelet and the run-down from the faceless maids in the castle, the first thing they realize upon stepping outside is that the city has been all but shut down for some sort of large festival. There are stalls set up along all of the main streets, selling everything from savory foods to desserts to clothes to trinkets, and the vendors cheerfully call at people as they pass, trying to entice them over. The stalls are all decked in incredibly colorful banners and flags, as if attempting to beat back the grayness still lurking in a lot of the city by sheer physical force. Small musical ensembles play on street corners, and one can't go far at all without nearly running into someone juggling or swallowing swords. Good luck finding your god's welcome house in this chaos - the streets are pretty packed with people just milling around! And have fun! ♥ |
Re: Harry Potter | Harry Potter
The dog, of course, is rather large, but not as strange. That's safe, at least.
"Yes, yes I am," he says finally, having gained his bearings and chosen something to look at that wouldn't make him look like a proper creep. "I'm new and ..." He looks out toward the area. "It's rather busy, you see. They left this part out of things." And again, without his magic ... but he doesn't add that. Despite all the times he's been on newspapers, the girl doesn't seem to recognize him. That's very much welcomed considering the circumstances, but it is a touch surprising considering he was chosen at all.
"Though I can't expect them to be very helpful. They never asked my permission in the first place." Ah, maybe that's a little harsh and a little much. He wipes his hands down his sides and hesitates. "Er, sorry. I mean—I'm lost. If you're willing to help, I'd appreciate it."
no subject
She hesitates, trying to figure out a way to juggle the leash and the ice cream so that she can offer her hand to shake, and finally seems to realize that she simply can't.
"I'm Jade, by the way. Um- which House are you in? Do you know? Or - let me see the color of the stone on the bracelet, I can figure out from that, too!" He friendliness seems earnest, at the very least.
no subject
"If they'd asked, it would make this process much easier." And while he wants to tell himself he'd say no, that perhaps he would take a much needed rest, he knows that isn't the case. Tired, yes, but willing to turn his back on someone in need? That's something he can't do easily.
"Anyway, I'm Harry, and—here, have a look." At that last part, he extends his hand to show her the bracelet. It's the stone indicating Heimdall.
no subject
Jade sort of exhales that before she realizes what she's doing, cutting her eyes up from his bracelet to his face, squinting in thought. "You're in Heimdall, aaand I am actually headed there right now! That's where the restaurant I work in is at, I can show you to the welcome house!"
And then she pauses and chews thoughtfully on her lip.
"Your last name isn't 'Potter' by any chance, is it?"
He was English. What were the odds?
no subject
But he doesn't lie. There's no use, is there? Plus, circumstances have changed, and he's no longer a wanted criminal. Maybe he'll bask in the fact that there is very little chance that, in the future, he'll have to dread anyone recognizing him for reasons beyond the very same ones that greeted him when he first stepped (back) into the wizarding world.
"That's right. I'm Harry Potter," he says with a nod, keeping his tone as light as possible. "And I'd appreciate that. Thank you."
no subject
There's no admiration or awe in her face, though - she's just turning to whistle sharply at the dog, smiling gently at Harry as she nods at one of the streets to indicate 'this way.' Oh, Draco wasn't going to like this at all, was he? He was going to mope and whine for days.
"There's a girl named Hermione Granger here, and another girl named Luna Lovegood, and I think they are friends of yours from home? There are a few people from your world, here, I think Hermione is gonna be super excited to see you."
no subject
His enthusiasm does subside almost immediately, though. Logic comes in the moment he starts to piece it together, because ... logic tells him that as far as he knows, Hermione is back home. Very much back home, even. Luna is the same, though she's harder to account for.
"But ... they can't be," he says finally. He had been following, but he stops, shaking his head. "You must be mistaken."
no subject
She pauses, then, and perks.
"-- but right! You guys have real magic in your world, don't you? Soooo cool."
no subject
"From what you're saying, Hermione and Luna have been here before I arrived." He's clever enough to grasp that, anyway, especially since she knows they all work with magic. He's surprised that it's been related so freely, but these circumstances are a bit unusual. "But what you've said explains it."
He finally nods and takes a step toward, indicating he still wants to move. That is, once the dog's done finishing the ice cream cone. Harry idly wonders if people were supposed to give dogs ice cream cones, but she's a girl with dog ears, so she likely knows better than he does. "And we do have magic. How much has Hermione told you, anyway?"
no subject
How to go about this.
"It wasn't really Hermione who told me about the magic? It's another boy from your world. It's not really important who!"
no subject
To him, anyway, that means she doesn't want him to know.
"I'd like to know who it is." There. That'll move things along.
no subject
"Um. You guys don't really get along, if what he tells me is true. He's changed a lot! He's come a long way, honest, he's really not a giant assface anymore."
no subject
He doesn't want to assume too quickly, but if it is him, he'd rather know now. Putting it off just because he doesn't want it to be Malfoy won't help anyone.
"It's not Malfoy, is it?" he asks. He phrased the question carefully, hoping that it wouldn't be him. Harry looks at Jade, silently hoping that she means anyone else. Percy, for instance, could be a bit of an "assface." Then aagin, Percy doesn't dislike him that terribly much, and he was there right along with everyone else in the final battle.
no subject
She rubs her cheek and tries not to look sheepish.
"Yes, it's Draco. But he's really a good guy, honest to everything. Just give him a chance, okay? He's made a lot of progress here and I don't want to see him backslide." So that look on her face is concern.
no subject
He's someone who saved his life.
And then, Malfoy's mother saved his in due time.
So while agitation does cross his features, he eventually looks uneasy. That uneasiness is mostly because this is ... not what he expected. A ringing endorsement of Draco Malfoy and how he's changed while fighting someone else's war is certainly new.
"We won't ever get along," is what he finally tells her. Before that, he certainly seemed like he was grasping for the right words. "It's been far too long for that." He knows his words aren't encouraging, but they are truthful. Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy shall never be friends seems to be on a rulebook somewhere. What he doesn't admit to himself is that he kind of likes that status quo.
no subject
"That's okay! I hope we can get along, though. I've heard a lot about you, Harry Potter, you seem like a really interesting guy."
There's another flash of a smile, here, encouraging. "Ready to start walking again?"
no subject
"But yes, let's go." He wants to ask how she knows Malfoy, and he knows he'll ask in time, but somehow, he feels like it's a tense conversation. Harry doesn't know if he'll be able to keep back any of his own remarks about Malfoy's true (or perceived) nature.
no subject
"He's my roommate. We've lived together for.. ummm, a few months now, I guess. Just in case you were wondering."
no subject
Then again, maybe there are some here.
"Flatmates, really? And did he start being less of an ... assface because you live together?" If so, then maybe that explains everything. Jade seems rather nice. Actually, the surprising part is that Malfoy took to her at all. He wonder with magic means that she's a Muggle ... or something like it. Ears, after all, unless he just overlooked all that and assumed she wasn't. That's possible, too.
no subject
She considers something, and then shrugs.
"I don't really know a lot of what happened at home with you guys." Or, well, she did, thanks to the shared nightmares Freya had inflicted on all of them, but- "And none of it is really my business, either, I guess. He's a very important friend of mine here, though, and that's all that matters to me."
no subject
Some level of admiration can't help but creep into his voice. Maybe he's wrong. Maybe Malfoy was wonderful and just a jerk to everyone else, but he really doubts it. He knows he isn't giving Malfoy much credit, but giving him credit isn't always ... easy.
no subject
Jade holds her breath for a second, wondering how far she should push it.
"And he's worth sticking by. For me, at least. I know he did a lot of shitty things at home, so don't think I'm going to be upset if you still dislike him, okay? I'm not trying to force you two on a playdate."
no subject
Mostly.
If Malfoy messes up, Harry knows he'll be the first one on the case. It'll be his fault for letting him go that long.
"And we wouldn't agree to it. But I won't cause any problems." On purpose, anyway. "We have a way of making them happen anyway." Yes, there he goes. There's his warning.
no subject
"Voldemort's not here, either, so you don't have to worry about that." That's one of Draco's big fears, she'll start but doesn't quite finish, chewing thoughtfully on her lip. "And we really are at war right now.. I know it doesn't exactly look like it. We just had a pretty major victory."
no subject
"He can't," he begins. "Voldemort. He can't come here. He's gone for good." And getting a third shot doesn't exactly seem likely after all that. There might be other Dark Lords, to be certain, but no Voldemort, not anymore. After all, he was hardly the first.
He realizes he doesn't comment on the victory, but then again, he's commenting on a victory of his own. That's enough.
