monthly test drive!!

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

• Got a character you're thinking of reserving/apping this round? PUT THEM HERE!
• Threads here can count as your third person sample!
• Comment with your character's name and canon!
• Make up your own scenario or have them walk into all the doors or leave it blank for others to do it for you!

OPTIONAL SCENARIO: After your character receives his or her bracelet and the run-down from the faceless maids in the castle, the first thing they realize upon stepping outside is that the city has been all but shut down for some sort of large festival. There are stalls set up along all of the main streets, selling everything from savory foods to desserts to clothes to trinkets, and the vendors cheerfully call at people as they pass, trying to entice them over. The stalls are all decked in incredibly colorful banners and flags, as if attempting to beat back the grayness still lurking in a lot of the city by sheer physical force. Small musical ensembles play on street corners, and one can't go far at all without nearly running into someone juggling or swallowing swords. Good luck finding your god's welcome house in this chaos - the streets are pretty packed with people just milling around!

And have fun! ♥

"Er—I'm not that interesting, really. And things Malfoy tells ... he'll make them sound more ... interesting than they really are." Yes, that's the way to approach it. Harry has never seen himself as interesting. Willing to fight to do what's necessary? Sure, he's always seen himself as that person, much to the chagrin of many (even those on the side of good). But interesting is far from the case.

"But yes, let's go." He wants to ask how she knows Malfoy, and he knows he'll ask in time, but somehow, he feels like it's a tense conversation. Harry doesn't know if he'll be able to keep back any of his own remarks about Malfoy's true (or perceived) nature.

"You live with him?" As reasonable as Harry sounded before, he doesn't sound that reasonable now. The question comes rather quickly without him thinking about it, but really: living in a castle with him was bad enough. He can't imagine actually living in enclosed space with him. At least in Hogwarts, there were places to escape to.

Then again, maybe there are some here.

"Flatmates, really? And did he start being less of an ... assface because you live together?" If so, then maybe that explains everything. Jade seems rather nice. Actually, the surprising part is that Malfoy took to her at all. He wonder with magic means that she's a Muggle ... or something like it. Ears, after all, unless he just overlooked all that and assumed she wasn't. That's possible, too.

"He wasn't very nice to you at first, was he?" Harry asks. Lost, without magic or a clue, and forced into a place where he's essentially a Muggle—Harry can't imagine that any wizard would like that, much less someone fro a background like Malfoy's. "If that's the case, then I'm surprised. You stuck by him through all that."

Some level of admiration can't help but creep into his voice. Maybe he's wrong. Maybe Malfoy was wonderful and just a jerk to everyone else, but he really doubts it. He knows he isn't giving Malfoy much credit, but giving him credit isn't always ... easy.

"Yes, that sounds like him." Using her, but somehow becoming her friend? Perhaps that's the most surprising part of all of this. Harry is honestly not sure what to make of all of this, but if Malfoy has become more mature, then he'll respect it.

Mostly.

If Malfoy messes up, Harry knows he'll be the first one on the case. It'll be his fault for letting him go that long.

"And we wouldn't agree to it. But I won't cause any problems." On purpose, anyway. "We have a way of making them happen anyway." Yes, there he goes. There's his warning.

He catches that she says his name easily—his name being Voldemort. Harry's somewhat surprised about that, because he comes to the conclusion that it was Draco who led to that. But still, her statement is a little strange for him. From his perspective, he can't be here—and he's more than willing to tell her that.

"He can't," he begins. "Voldemort. He can't come here. He's gone for good." And getting a third shot doesn't exactly seem likely after all that. There might be other Dark Lords, to be certain, but no Voldemort, not anymore. After all, he was hardly the first.

He realizes he doesn't comment on the victory, but then again, he's commenting on a victory of his own. That's enough.

He still wouldn't be a threat. Harry thinks he understands what she's saying: just like him, Voldemort—or Tom Riddle, as he wants to call him these days—wouldn't be able to do much without power. That doesn't mean much to Harry, though. Voldemort was causing problems a good few years before he had any power for himself.

So, he abruptly shakes his head. No, Voldemort may not be there, but he can be. That's a problem.

"He can do more than hurt people with a wand, Jade," he tells her seriously. "He's clever. Very clever. And depending on when he comes from, people won't be inclined to believe him over us." Harry remembers all too clearly the way Riddle acted as a teenager. He believed him easily, too. And why wouldn't he? He sets his jaw. "It won't be a problem until he shows up, but we're better off not thinking about it at all."

It's not that Harry gives Voldemort (Riddle) more credit than he deserves. He doesn't. But finding himself on what would be a whole different even footing doesn't exactly convince him that he can easily gain the upper hand.
