Ahh, you're really concerned about that? Do you think there's even a law for a drinking age here...? What a downer!

Am I doing ok?

[She's not really! Saya just doesn't know where that drink's been-that's all!]

Then does it matter? Or maybe it's that you're concerned about something other than a drinking age, isn't that right?

[Yuuko motions toward the other chair at her side with a kind smile] Drink or no, why don't you join me? There's something bitterly depressing about drinking without company, after all.

Sorry, I'm really nervous.

I am concerned about something else.

[Blurting that out in front of a stranger? Could she know her from her previous life...the life she can't seem to remember? She seemed nice enough so Saya took the seat with gratitude.]

[Her smile stays an enigma, warm and cool at the same time, but she withdraws her hand once Saya takes a seat. Even without the draw of her shop, every meeting is still fated, and considering her question, it feels like she's in her shop again. She can sense a wish here, even without her power, and perhaps it's just her role to help her realize it and grasp it.]

A mistake... [She makes a thoughtful noise, swirling the wine in her glass, but her answer comes out cool and resolute.] No, I do not think so. In a sense, there's no such thing as a mistake, though we may perceive it as such. Everything is fated. Your coming here, our meeting... There is no coincidence in this world.

[A pause, then she asks,] Do you think that you were not meant to be brought here?

[She looks down to the ground with her hands in her lap, unsure how to answer the witch. She was just an ordinary high school student so how could she help save a city? Saya didn't know if she was dreaming all of this like that one dream involving lots of fire. She didn't think about it as much until now.]

What do I have to offer this place?

[Was she worried about the Saya right now or was she thinking about her 'true' self?]

[Her smile hinges on rueful, though the question is honest and not at all meant to be sarcastic]

It's a matter of choice. If you believe the goal set out for us by the letter, then what we all offer is our personality and our capacity to interact with others. That is all they asked.

[She sips from her glass] But if you mean something more than that, or if you do not believe the letter, then what you offer—That is something you must find for yourself. It is not something anyone else can tell you. And certainly not a stranger.

Nothing's ever easy, right?

[She couldn't put her finger on it but there was something about this woman. So wise and held an air like she knew everything about the world...or at least a lot of it because someone to know everything wasn't possible.

Then she looked up.]

I should've introduced myself first before asking something like that. My name is Otonashi Saya.

If it were easy, then the results are hardly worth having, Otonashi-san.

[Yuuko's red eyes look up from her drink to Saya's matching ones, the cool smile seeming to be reflected there just as much as in her lips.]

I am Ichihara Yuuko. It is a pleasure to meet you.

Guess it's a good point then.

[Maybe being sent to Asgard was a good thing; who knows what kinds of things and people Saya can meet. Perhaps in return, the city would have someone she knows or someone who holds the key to her memories.]

[She smiles warmly, taking a sip of wine]

Besides, their reasons why, you may never find out, and that's alright! Few people ever know their purpose in life, yet we can live happily despite that. The decision that you face is not a "why," but instead, I would think it is a "how." How will you face this new world, this new situation? That's the question that we all face!
