okay I might say something weird just because Cloud in Asgard has been funny and there is a lot to Cloud and Tifa so if something is confusing just. Let me know.

The basic stuff: he trusts her, he's protective of her. He's pretty sure they're childhood friends even if he doesn't remember what they ever did together, so he focuses a lot more on the reliability than the actual acting like friends. (that...sounds a bit terrible but it's not like Cloud is very good at Doing Friendship.) He's been shaken more and more in his identity but he knows she remembers what's happened, so he relies on her for that.

The Asgard stuff: She's from the future, she thinks he's someone besides who he "is", and he's figured out that pretty much the whole time he thought she was silently agreeing with him in Kalm she was wondering what the heck he was on. This is why taking silence as tacit agreement doesn't work...

Her being from the future both reassures him--he didn't mess up anything enough for her to hate him, and things seem to work out somehow re: Sephiroth's apocalyptic plans considering she's noticeably older--and breaks his brain a little. Pre-Reunion Cloud isn't a very "future" thinker. He's preoccupied with avenging (and subconsciously, avoiding) a past he can't remember and dealing with all the curveballs in the present. If you asked him what he was going to be doing two years in the future, he'd probably toss out something lame about mercenary work. Honestly? He's surprised on some level to realize there actually is a future for him and he doesn't die taking Sephiroth out or whatever. It doesn't fit with the "copy" mindset, or his own shortsighted view. ...He's not saying anything like that to Tifa. Just. Yes. Quiet disbelief, and confusion as he tries to stretch to some scenario where Tifa thinks to ask about a couple of kids and him at the same time.

...He has such a wonderful imagination.

The disbelief is part of why he really believed it when "Tifa" stabbed him. And on that note, he's always trusted her to never hurt him--unless he "has" to be hurt, aka before he ends up doing something horrible. It stemmed from the Temple of Ancients plus his conversation with Dissidia Light, and I actually kind of borrowed a bit from Dissidia Cloud's actions to figure out how Cloud should think about it. But, well, now Cloud knows that Tifa is pretty disapproving of the idea that she should ever hurt him. Which. Is mostly relieving (she doesn't think he deserves to be hurt, ALWAYS A GOOD THING) and just a tiny bit concerning because he hears about stuff like Dissidia, sans important details, and thinks oh, hell. If he was, in the future, going to come after her like he did Aerith, she needs to punch his lights out. Or stab him. Preemptively? Yeah overall Cloud wasn't thinking very clearly, but that wasn't a good situation for thinking clearly. ...But Tifa obviously doesn't want to hear that so he'll just keep it to himself and if Going Crazy ever looks likely for him again he'll find someone else to promise they will beat the crap out of him.

...Anyway. Because he has a hard time putting himself in the future is part of why he has trouble feeling like he is the Cloud Tifa knows. But really that's the cherry on top of the memory mess. He's hurt that she didn't say anything in Kalm and that she wanted to ask the gods to fix him, instead of getting more a chance to fix it himself, but he knows Tifa isn't trying to hurt him so he views it more as him not being trustworthy/reliable enough. There's frustration and upset, but it mostly gets turned at himself. (He may still have some questions to ask her, though.) But at least frustration motivates him to get talking to Zack? Because he really does want to be someone she can count on.

...Okay I can't even tell what's on-topic now. BASICALLY he's frustrated about things as they stand with her right now but wants to make them better. Is not entirely sure what "better" is, but when does Cloud ever know exactly what he's aiming for. And he needs to learn to loosen up so he can have a purely fun/light-hearted conversation with her, but that might take a bit. Help him pick on Riku, Tifa.
