THE RETURNENING

Welcome to the second season of the Asgard Eventide Test Drive Meme! This is your hostess, Noah, very pleased to bring this back after the success of our last drive.

Now the steps are the same as the last time. In fact, mostly copy-pasta:
Step 1: Post with the character and journal you're wanting to play. You're more than welcome to leave the message blank or have a fun little scenario going on. Like fighting that dragon thing or other Assgard shenanigans.
Step 2: Other people respond to your post with new or existing muses! A budding romance! Hilarity! Fluff! A sudden attack! The choice is yours to make!
Step 3: PROFIT!
Step 4: Spread the word! Bring a friend! Make a random announcement on D_M! Get this post to crack the hundreds! It doesn't matter if you end up apping or not! This is a place of fun and meeting new people before the waiting!

Okay I was a little off in my scheduling the last time, but these memes will go up the day of reserves, depending on my own ability to get them up. Other than that, go ahead and have fun.

[The second Kyle calls out to him, Alan jumps. It's not one of those slight ones where you jump back in surprise, it's more like the ones where you jump up three feet in the air because you're terrified. Because really, when you face the Taken and they appear out of nowhere, his first instinct is to run. Here, it's more along the lines of "faceless person faceless person faceless person oh look another faceless person face less person faceless person again actual person talking at me wait what holy shit-"

But when he realizes it's not like them trying to go after him, he relaxes, and laughs. It's not a normal laugh- it's a laugh like someone who's seen too much, faced too much at once, is about to lose it.]

H-Hey.

[Oh god Alan, he probably thinks you're crazy. Well, wouldn't be the first time.]

I'm really excited to even SEE an Alan player ;; also I'm of the tl;dr-y exposition myself so xD

<sub>[Well ... no. No, Kyle doesn't think he's crazy. And while he'll be the first person to admit that no, he hasn't seen a lot of crazy in his life, this guy's behaviour is just screaming scared. And scared, he's seen plenty of times.]

[It kind of goes with the job, after all. He might not be a cop anymore but that detective instinct never leaves - is in fact returning full force now, as he takes half a step closer and eyes Alan warily.]

[(He might not be crazy, but he could still be desperate.)]</sub>

[furrows]

[And he instantly whirls, afraid that one of the Darkness' pawns might've come up behind him. But there's no one there, and then he realizes Kyle is referring to being chased in the pas tense. And when he does, he facepalms for looking like an absolute idiot.]

...I did. I just hope it didn't follow me here.

[Alan calms down a bit, but it's easy to see that whatever he was doing back home has clearly on edge.]

yeah same ;; and I only pick the tiniest fandoms so I naturally had to leap at you!

_{[Woah, this guy is worse than a first-time thief hauled in for questioning. Kyle's not exactly the nicest guy, it's just not really a thing with him, but he can't ignore someone who looks like he might crawl out of his own skin if he thought that would help matters.]}

Yeah, what kind of thing are we talking about here? Cops? Taxes?

_{[He's not trying to make fun of Alan or anything. It's just that snark comes naturally, even if he's not got the typical sarcastic edge to his tone here. That could really set this guy off.]}

[furrows]

[He sighs.]

Not quite. It's a lot worse than that. [Should he tell him? Should he keep his mouth shut? Decisions decisions.] The Taken. I was running from the Taken. Fighting them, too. My wife is in trouble.

[hydeandseek]

<sub>[The ... Taken?]

[Right. Some gang name.]

[Being from a straight-up detective story, that's all he's going to assume. Unless the guy really is a little crazy, of course. It's not entirely out of the question, but Kyle's never seen a guy this worked up over a fantasy.]</sub>

How is she in trouble?

_{[Cop mode cop mode cop mode...]}

[furrows]

She's being held captive by the Darkness.

[Man, don't even try to think straight-up detective style, his world is nuts. Well, more like Bright Falls is but moving on-]

I know it sounds crazy, and it probably is. But it's real in Bright Falls and if I don't fight back, I'll lose her.

[hydeandseek]

No offense, but you look more like roadkill than a fighter right now.

<sub>[Which he says bluntly, because pal, it's the honest truth.]

[He takes a closer look at him, kind of critically. Yeah, these supernatural implications? Not something he'll just accept.]</sub>

[furrows]

[He sees that, and he gives an aggravated look back at Kyle.]

You think I'm crazy, don't you?

[hydeandseek]

Yeah, maybe.

_{[He gestures towards Alan in a non-threatening way, but it still indicates that yeah, if either of them is crazy? It's probably him.]}

Can you blame me?

[furrows]

No no, I can't. If I listened to myself before this happened, even I'd think I'd jumped off the deep end.

[He's laughing a little at this, wishing he could prove that yes, the Taken are real, and his wife is indeed being held captive by the Darkness. But if this is a different place entirely, then there's no way he can prove himself. None at all.]

[hydeandseek]

_{[And Kyle doesn't know exactly what he's referring to anyway - if he did, he would be more firm on the topic. As it is now, he huffs a little and nods at the faceless people walking by.]}

Look, right now? I'd say we're both kind of crazy.

[furrows]

Oh yeah? What gave you that clue?

[It's a smirk thrown in Kyle's direction, something Alan is used to wearing nowadays. Sarcasm is his forte, but he was never the kind to be so friendly about it before.]

[hydeandseek]

The people going on about gods were the first indication.

<sub>[He shoots back easily, sarcasm and deadpans something easy to fall back on for him as well. Needless to say, Kyle's not a big believer in gods - in fact, he doesn't believe in much of anything other than what he can see.]

[So it's kind of obvious that he doesn't care much for what he's seeing right now. The one reasonable conclusion would be that it's a dream or something.]</sub>

[furrows]

They could be real. They could not. Who knows in a place like this?

[For all he's blabbering about, he has a point.]

But something brought us here. That's still true.

[hydeandseek]

<sub>[(Or you really are insane. How's that for a something?)]

[It's something Kyle doesn't say though, because that would be kind of cruel, so he just tilts his head back in response at first, looking pensive.]</sub>

Might not be.

You said it yourself. Who knows, right?

[furrows]

[Be nice Kyle, for all you know the gods could play tricks on you and turn you into a rat for a week.]

I think we're just guessing at this point.

[But he's more relaxed now, more at ease. Even if he can't find a way out, there has to be someone who does.]

[hydeandseek]

_{[Well he doesn't know and until he sees them pull that kind of stunt, he's not going to believe, either. So there.]}

Beats walking around in a panic.

_{[Yeah, a but if a subtle metaphorical nudge there. Pay it no mind though.]}

[furrows]

[A sarcastic 'heh' is thrown his direction for all his generosity.]

Alan. Alan Wake.

_{[Not that Kyle is big on symbolism or anything, but there does seem to be a little bit of a person in their name.]}

[furrows]

I could say the same about yours.

[But he gives a look of relief, for once. OMG SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHO HE IS? YES THANK YOU GOD.]

It's good to not be stormed by fans for once, though.

<sub>[YEAH DON'T WORRY. Kyle does read sometimes but he's also from 1981 so ahahaha.]

[He looks curious at that though, a little amused too when he gives Alan a quick once over. NOPE, no bells.]</sub>

Fans, huh? What did you do to deserve those?

[furrows]

I'm a writer. Apparently my stories entice a lot of people.

[Said jokingly. He gets bothered by weird random people claiming to be his number one fan quite often.]

_{[(Oh. Writers.) He had a run-in with one once he really didn't like, but at least Alan doesn't quite seem like the kind of guy who'd steal manuscripts from his friends.]}

Looks like I'm missing out. What kind of stuff do you write about?

[furrows]

[Nope.jpg- problem is the papers he has right now are a manuscript he doesn't remember writing.]

Mystery thrillers, mostly. Detective work, murders, I do those too.

[He laughs at that, amused that he's explaining it to someone, but still thankful at the same time.]

My last book angered my fanbase though. They weren't too happy about the ending.
