ASGARD GENESIS - TEST DRIVE #2

the test drive meme.

let's do this.
  • We have an Enable Me Please/App This Please meme up over here! Take a peek, see if maybe you have some potential castmates or characters you might want to try out.
  • Anyone can post to the test drive meme, including duplicates! Please put your character name and canon in the title of your comment.
  • All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)!
  • If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You only need to provide seven comments if you use TDM samples.
  • You can't really be late to a TDM! This will be considered open until the next one goes live next month.
  • You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character waking or selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below!
  • You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead.
  • If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. If you aren't sure exactly how to do this, you can always ask a mod.
  • Reserves open on June 24 at 12:01AM PST and close on June 30 at 11:59PM PST.
  • Applications open on July 1 at 12:01AM PST and close on July 7 at 11:59PM PST.
  • Please always feel free to contact the mods if you have any questions! Have fun, dear (future?) Wanderers. ♥

optional scenario.
A thunderstorm seems to have taken over Asgard's sky, dark clouds hanging eerily low and crackling with energy. The entire city is cast into a gloomy grey, the actual colors of the plants and buildings just a little more dull than normal. The air feels thick and heavy, even indoors, and the weather seems to be having varying effects on everyone.

A sudden clap of thunder might bring back a sharp memory of the last time you were truly afraid of something.
A bright flash of lightning might make your heart race with excitement and a sudden drive to do something you ordinarily wouldn't.
The heavy downpour of rain might make you inexplicably sad about something, whether real or imagined.

These effects might only last a second, or perhaps they stay with you all day. Maybe you just have to get out of the rain and dry off, that's all - perhaps it's just normal weather.

[ That serious face, it's going to look increasingly stupefied. Vanitas should be used to Noé surprising him by now and yet there's still that expectation that, surely, he will arrive at a point in their adventure where the other becomes predictable.

No such luck right now it seems.
]

You shouldn't challenge a doctor's diagnosis, you understand. I just confirmed that you don't suffer from memory loss...

[ Vanitas trails off. He realises that he's not doubting Noé, that he finds himself in the novel situation of simply believing someone. Could be that this is based on experience, the knowledge that Noé is neither stupid nor a liar. Could be that Noé's face is as annoyingly open as always.

In any case, something is off.
] What is the last thing you recall?

The last thing... ah.

[ He singles in on those last memories and is met with a very visual recollection of the "birth" of the so-called Beast of Gevaudan. The image of looking down the barrel of a gun before he knows it's going to shoot. The burning feeling of being pierced. Calling for help but those pleas falling on deaf ears. All these things he was asked to remember. Things he couldn't bear to ever forget. And that single ray of light, the center of which lie a familiar silhouette but he never...

He'd never reached them.

Not that he can remember.
]

...my last memories aren't my own. They're Jean-Jaques'. After that I... I don't remember. Did I pass out? Even so I remember thinking if I made it just a bit further, I'd be safe...

[ The pain he registered back then from that memory was capable of doing something like making him lose consciousness. That doesn't account for what Vanitas seems to think he should know though. ]

[ Vanitas knows how that story goes: a voluntary curse-bearer, a machine he's unable to stop, a woman yearning for revenge. It's a story that annoyed him the first time he heard it and, seemingly, a story he should not know at all. ]

You're about to tell me that the man isn't the Beast. [ Vanitas pauses, thoughts going a mile-a-minute. ] That's confirming it. They did feed you some sketchy potion, after all.

[ Not that the potion is the problem here. It doesn't add up, the two of them being part of the same story but also caught on different pages. There's the urge to push Noé for answers he won't have and yet the urge is tempered, somewhat, because Noé's face, it's the same drained expression he saw when they first met up again.

An expression Vanitas does not care for
] What did you see after you woke up?

[Without hesitation he nods. Even with the discrepancies, he remembers what he learned very clearly. The killing started before the "Beast" even existed.]

Sketchy potion...?

[It's a strange claim, but ultimately one that reminds him of something else he'd forgotten.]

Oh...

[ As if he remembered something seemingly important, his expression goes blank. ]

...the poison. I'd completely forgotten.

[ "Important", yet something he treats the same as if he'd forgotten to put something back where it belonged, or forgot to tie his shoes.

But he feels better now, so... it's probably fine? It's probably fine. He doesn't seem worried about it in the slightest. And at the very least he's moving well enough.
]

It seems like the effect has passed.

[ But... after he woke up? That would have to be-- ]

When I woke up, I was in a white room. I started looking around because I was curious and-- that's how I got here.

[ Simple enough. ]
