ASGARD GENESIS - TEST DRIVE #1

All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)! If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below! You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead. If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. Wanderers. ♥ ❧ optional scenario. As you enter Asgard proper, many of the natives have gathered into curious crowds to greet these mysterious children of the World Tree. Some of them carry baskets of flowers and nervously offer one to any Wanderers that come near. They are vibrant and colorful, picked from the wilds surrounding Asgard, and they might have an odd effect on your character if they sniff the flowers directly. Purple flowers will make your character very giggly and easily amused by everything they see and hear. Orange flowers will make your character feel very warm all over, like the sun is beating down on them directly. Blue flowers will make your character somewhat short and impatient with anything that seems like even a minor inconvenience to them. Effects of the flowers can wear off anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. And for those new to Asgard, this scenario aligns with some of the general curses we might have in the game! navigation.

Well ...

[ He shifts on his feet, a little bit awkwardly, and taps his hand against his thigh a couple of times. ]

If you wanted to keep looking, two pair of eyes are better than one? Maybe you could help me find my friends too.

[ As much as he doubts they're here, it's not like he's been looking too long. Could have just missed them. ]

[darraig]

Yeah? I guess. Can't hurt. Who were you looking for then?

[Names, physical descriptions, so she knows who else to keep an eye out for at least. If she's already met him, chances are others might also be around and looking for their friends. Presumably that meant there might be at least a chance that their friends were around, that AJ was here.]

[theprezident]

Three people.

[ While he talks, he'll just start walking. ]

The first's my best friend. His name is Vaughn, and he's shorter than me, wears a black vest and a pair of glasses. Looks like a nerd. We were with two women named Fiona and Sasha. Fiona's got a red coat and a white hat. Sasha has a ... actually a really short jacket, and wears a pair of goggles like a headband. Well, she's got an actual headband too. Hairband? You know what I mean. Do you know what I mean?

[darraig]

Three? Vaughn, Fiona and Sasha, alright. And yeah, I know what you mean.

[Not that she wears one herself but. She gets the idea. One of those bands that help keep your hair out of your face. Clementine glances around, biting her lip as she tries to decide where to start.]

Any ideas where your friends might head first?

[theprezident]

Uhhhh. I wonder if there's a library or something around here.

[darraig]

Probably? Or whatever equivalent they have.

[Scrolls? That's what they used to have instead of books, right? Or something like that? Anyway, she's sure there is probably some sort of equivalent to a library that they could go to to find out more about this place.]

[theprezident]

Vaughn might go there. What about AJ? We should probably focus on him.

[ Being a little kid and all. And if Vaughn is here, it seems safe enough and he's probably fine. Most likely. ]

If he doesn't like people sneaking up on him, maybe he'd try to find somewhere quiet.

[darraig]

Right. I guess the library would be quiet. Somewhere less crowded.....so maybe? Depending on where he ended up he might have wandered enough to find one, or at least some side street or something to hide in for now.

[And AJ was good at hiding. And small. So unless he hears, unless he sees Clementine out searching, this might take a while. To say the least. Clementine is probably the one person he would trust. The one person he would go with.]

[theprezident]

So we're probably better off moving away from the crowd. It'll be easier for them to spot us too that way.

[darraig]

Right. Unless there's some general welcome area, we should probably just keep moving and keep an eye out, ask around.

[She agrees, giving a nod before she glances around, as if trying to decide which direction to go in first to start with. Wherever there aren't as many people. The direction they are coming from, maybe. She wouldn't blame AJ, given the crowds make her uneasy too, being so used to the walkers outnumbering them.]

[theprezident]

[ Might as well just walk directly away from the castle, since that seems to be where most people are gathering, gods and natives and new arrivals alike. So, he gestures down the nearest street.

There doesn't seem to be too much in the way of buildings, so it hopefully isn't going to take too long to search through everything. ]

This way?

[darraig]

I guess. Wherever there isn't so many people.

[Granted, they could keep asking others, but so far that hasn't seemed to have been successful. Nobody so far had said they had seen AJ around that she has been asking, so she may as well take matters into her own hands at least for a bit, to keep looking for him herself. That and with Rhys helping, she has a better chance at finding him, right? In theory.]

[theprezident]

[ And so he starts walking. ]

Soooo. Six year-old kid with a knife and gun. Guess your home's not really sunshine and roses, huh?

[ A pause. ]

Not that you, err, need to tell my anything about it. Just ...

[ He rubs the back of his neck, and then vaguely waves his hand. Just ... something. ]

[darraig]

Not exactly. No. I was eight when I learned how to shoot.

[So barely much older than AJ when it started. When the outbreak happened. Clementine is still on edge, but seems to slightly relax a little more with the tension in her shoulders and posture as they get further from the bigger crowds.]

There was this outbreak. Walkers -- zombies? Whatever you want to call it. The dead didn't stay dead. When they bit you, you would soon die and become one of them. We're all infected, we all turn when we die, even if we aren't bitten, but.

[That's just....normal. Life, how things are, now. After so many years, it feels like anything before the outbreak was another lifetime. Almost like all that happened to someone else.]

[theprezident]

[ His eyes widen, and for a few seconds he's speechless.

And then all he gets out anyway is: ]

Holy shit.

[ Sure, Pandora's a hellhole of bandits and disgusting and disturbing monsters that want to kill you, but at least everything stays dead. Usually. Unless you're Handsome Jack and you have a crazy fan who decide to make an AI version of you but, even then, you're still technically dead. ]

[darraig]

Yup. Welcome to the life. Now you get why I made sure he knew how to take care of himself?

[Sure. She knows others might take issue with the idea. Especially if they didn't have walkers to deal with back where they were from. But the walkers? That is all AJ knows. He has only vaguely heard stories from Clementine about what it used to be like. About a time when they didn't need to be constantly alert, before Clementine knew how to shoot, before she met Lee.]

[theprezident]

[ He holds up his hands. ]

Hey, I wasn't judging you. Honestly. Where I'm from there's a planet where I'm pretty sure people are born with guns in their hands 'cause they're just screwed otherwise, if you're unlucky enough to get born there.

[darraig]

What? Seriously?

[....and she thought the walkers were bad? Sounds like this guy has it worse, even. At least from what he says there. Clementine isn't sure if she wants to hear details or not.]

[theprezident]

Seriously. Everything there wants to kill you. Pretty sure the plants want to kill you.

[darraig]

At least some of the flora back home are safe. And the fauna....most of the people usually want to kill you for your supplies, but. That's because everyone is that much more desperate if they have survived this long so far.

[Somewhat taking advantage of others, of supplies you find, is the only way to survive still. She's long since had to realize the necessity of that, even when at first she was adamant that she was against stealing.]

[theprezident]

Yeah, I bet. Sounds terrifying.

[ Not that it's too unlike that even outside of Pandora. Trying to make it in the galaxy often means risking getting on someone's bad side and just ending up dead. And they don't even have the excuse of survival a lot of the time.

He didn't have the excuse of survival. He just wants to make money. But that's how it works. Play the game or get played. ]

Isn't it ... easier to find supplies if you work together, though?

[darraig]

In theory. Splitting up means more chance of finding something. It's just....at least in my experience, groups don't tend to stay groups for long.

[Something always happens. They die somehow or separate and then she is left. That's how it has always been in her experience up till now at least. That the dead kept coming back and eventually obviously outnumber the living is why she is so antsy around crowds. Clementine glances around, checking side streets and such as they pass by.]

[theprezident]

[ A shrug. ]

I just know I wouldn't have made it as far as I did without the people I had with me. Fiona and Sasha would be fine without me and Vaughn though.

[ It's just kind of. Coincidence that they're sticking together still. They're growing on him, though. ]

[darraig]

I wouldn't have made it for long at all if I....if I actually had dropped a rock or something on Lee when he showed up at my place first back then. Ever since...it's because of him. What he taught me that has helped me survive.

[She owes him everything. Not that she could ever properly tell him that, outside of wishing she could. Outside of dreams. At least as far as she is aware with who might show up in this place, not anticipating that people she had lost might be around somewhere.]

Yeah, see? That's what I mean. You can't just do everything by yourself. AJ's lucky to have you.
