Anyone can post to the test drive meme, including duplicates! Please put your character name and canon in the title of your comment.
All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)!
If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You only need to provide seven comments if you use TDM samples.
You can't be "late" to a TDM! This will be considered open until the next one goes live next month.
You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below!
You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead.
If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. If you aren't sure exactly how to do this, you can always ask a mod.

❧ optional scenario.
As you enter Asgard proper, many of the natives have gathered into curious crowds to greet these mysterious children of the World Tree. Some of them carry baskets of flowers and nervously offer one to any Wanderers that come near. They are vibrant and colorful, picked from the wilds surrounding Asgard, and they might have an odd effect on your character if they sniff the flowers directly.

Purple flowers will make your character very giggly and easily amused by everything they see and hear.
Orange flowers will make your character feel very warm all over, like the sun is beating down on them directly.
Blue flowers will make your character somewhat short and impatient with anything that seems like even a minor inconvenience to them.

Effects of the flowers can wear off anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. And for those new to Asgard, this scenario aligns with some of the general curses we might have in the game!

( Inconveniently, the person he could quiz about this is absent...wow, he's screwed. Emil puts his head in his hands and sighs long and loud. )

Not sure that's their plan, but I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm not gonna sit around and wait for them to give us the answers.

[ He hasn't figured out how he will find the answers yet, but he's sure he can figure it out! Somehow. ]

( Unfortunately, if you say something like that then he's going to get a little curious. )

Really? Do you have some sort of plan?

[ A sigh. ]

I don't know enough for that yet. Whether this is some kind of dimension hopping or ... something else, I dunno, I don't have my usual tools to try and figure it out. It's a bit outside of my area of expertise.

There are tools for this kind of thing? Or, err, something like it...?

( It's all very eye-opening. Like...can you open up a world with a screwdriver or a hammer? He wants to know. )

None of this makes any sense to me...I don't know why I'm even trying to be rational when this is all so ridiculous.

[ He waves his cybernetic arm. ]

This is a tool. But it's useless now.

[ And as he drops it, he holds it out for a shake. ]

( Ah yes, that...thing. Emil had been side-eyeing it off and on, but you know. Today has been pretty wacky. Someone with a strange machine arm is about par for the course.

Having to shake it, though...that's certainly an experience. He grabs the hand with some trepidation, awkwardly shaking it while also being somewhat distracted by absorbing the sensation. Huh...metallic. )

I'm, uh. Emil. ( Oops, he's been shaking Rhys' hand a little too long now. He let's go and clears his throat. ) How did you, hmm. Get this?

( He gestures at his own arm before deciding it makes more sense to point to the actual cybernetic appendage in question. )

[ That's okay. He'll just patiently wait to get his arm back. Not without slowly raising an eyebrow higher and higher. ]

That's a bit of a personal question. 'Hey, guy I've just met, I see you've got an arm made of metal. What happened to your original arm?'

[ Yeah, that's definitely putting words in Emil's mouth, but that's basically what that question means.

He's not exactly angry, though, and he doesn't sound like it either. It's just. Kind of rude. ]

( It's honestly a wonder those exact words didn't come out, but it's probably because he was busy inserting his foot into it regardless. Emil immediately tenses, caught being rude. Thoughtlessly, even. )

Sorry! It's just...I really don't know how that's possible? ( Honestly, it feels even more fantastical than Gods and magic and everything. That exists in his world, cybernetics do not. )

[ He stares Emil down for a couple of seconds longer, for no particular reason at all except to be a bastard, really, and then relents. Fine, he'll let the guy off the hook. ]

So there are more people walking around with metal arms there... Doesn't it feel strange? ( He supposes he'd rather have a clunky metal arm than no arm at all, but imagine the noise it'd make if you knocked it against something.

Wow, what an aggravating thought. But it's a tool, so it has to be useful somehow. Oh, speaking of which: )

What all can it do?

It can show images, call people, connect to computers and networks. Simplifies things for you.

Yes, he has considered that there are people that would have no idea what any of that means. People will just have to ask. Though, frankly, he's not completely sure how he'll explain something that's such a given to him. ]

( Emil has to cycle through his vocabulary to try and come up with images for a few of these words. He can maybe imagine what a computer looks like? His image is something like a fancy typewriter with a window on it; that's the best he can do. A network is simple in one way but more complex in context. )

Can you do any of that? Right now?

( The staring becomes a little more intense again. Technological advancements have been a point of pride for Emil in the past, but this is...definitely some next level shit. Wanting to see it in action supersedes maybe coming off like he wants to see someone perform a trick for him. )

[ He honestly wouldn't be against showing off. Cybernetics are awesome, and he likes impressing people. Unfortunately he really can't. ]

( A disappointment. Emil sighs, previously excited to see that arm light up and do a thousand cool things he can only perceive are truly fantastical. This world has it out for him. )

Is it because you're here? Isn't it strange they'd not allow to you use the tools you brought with you, especially if it's part of your own body?

( This conspiracy theory he's got rolling isn't putting any more faith in these Gods having their best interests at heart. )

I dunno, I think it's just not ... compatible.

[ A shrug. If it made sense to him he might have a better explanation, but it doesn't really, so. That's that. ]
