ASGARD GENESIS - TEST DRIVE #1

the test drive meme.

let's do this.
  • Anyone can post to the test drive meme, including duplicates! Please put your character name and canon in the title of your comment.
  • All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)!
  • If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You only need to provide seven comments if you use TDM samples.
  • You can't be "late" to a TDM! This will be considered open until the next one goes live next month.
  • You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below!
  • You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead.
  • If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. If you aren't sure exactly how to do this, you can always ask a mod.
  • Reserves open on May 25 at 12:01AM PST and close on May 31 at 11:59PM PST.
  • Applications open on June 1 at 12:01AM PST and close on June 7 at 11:59PM PST.
  • Please always feel free to contact the mods if you have any questions! Have fun, dear (future?) Wanderers. ♥

optional scenario.
As you enter Asgard proper, many of the natives have gathered into curious crowds to greet these mysterious children of the World Tree. Some of them carry baskets of flowers and nervously offer one to any Wanderers that come near. They are vibrant and colorful, picked from the wilds surrounding Asgard, and they might have an odd effect on your character if they sniff the flowers directly.

Purple flowers will make your character very giggly and easily amused by everything they see and hear.
Orange flowers will make your character feel very warm all over, like the sun is beating down on them directly.
Blue flowers will make your character somewhat short and impatient with anything that seems like even a minor inconvenience to them.

Effects of the flowers can wear off anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. And for those new to Asgard, this scenario aligns with some of the general curses we might have in the game!

[ Jamie was once a commander; he's glad it's in the past tense now. He already nearly died for it once--he doesn't want to die fighting another man's war.

Still, the archer gets a nod of respect even if Jamie has no idea where he speaks of. ]

I've no' heard of the Iron Islands or a House called 'Greyjoy' where I'm from. I claim a land called Scotland as home. Went to battle myself to keep it free from another's rule.

[ So, he gets the gist of what Theon's saying. ]

[ Theon could hardly keep his small crew together. His grip on Winterfell was hardly iron and in the end, most of his men abandoned him. Commanding battles and drawing up plans is decidedly not for him. It’s just something else that Robb was always better at.

Jamie doesn’t need to know about Theon’s failures, though. Jamie is likely just part of this dream world and will disappear just as soon as Theon wakes.
]

There’s no such land in Westeros. If there were, I guarantee you the King would strip away its independence just as he did with the Iron Islands.

[ Balon was wise to surrender and bend the knee. It kept him from getting killed, but it started Theon’s incredibly long downward spiral. He’s just a little bitter. ]

We dinna need another king to do that. 'Tis already been done. What else is there to take from a land already conquered?

[ His entire way of life has been stripped of him. ]

Ye reclaim land as your own after it was taken from ye, then?

[ It makes sense to Jamie if this is the case. If a rogue king conquers lands, someone will, one day, rise up to make an attempt at taking it back. Success or otherwise will be determined by history--just as Jamie's attempt with the Jacobites. It was a failure; someone always loses in the end. ]

Anything they like.

[ When Theon’s brothers had been killed, when his father’s fleet had been smashed and his crown had been taken from him, there was more still that Robert Baratheon sought to take from the Iron Islands. Theon himself was ripped from home after that, and taken somewhere far from the sea. Anything can be taken from a conquered land. ]

No. Not yet.

[ Not ever, he thinks bitterly. Not with my help. He tried to aid his father’s conquests, but he had failed. He doesn’t expect that trust will ever be afforded to him again after Winterfell. ]

But my father wishes to reclaim what was taken from him, as well as more.

[ Greed never did get anyone anywhere long-term in the end. He's known fat rich kings and lords who get a taste of it, even keep it for a while. And still, it doesn't last forever. ]

Ye've been on both ends of it, then. War.

[ He's been conquered--or his family has, at least. And now they're doing the conquering. ]

[ That makes him laugh. If only Jamie saw the irony in it. Theon has been on both ends of war, but if you drew his life as a map, you’d find a young man who has turned in the same circle more than once in his very short life. He fought for the very people who helped to conquer the islands, but Balon will never win the North; Balon is a fool, and Theon is a fool as well. He should have never turned his cloak on Robb. ]

Aye.

[ He’s a mess. That’s the big secret. ]

You could say as much.

approximately 4534 years later I'M SORRY

[personal profile] seventeenfortythree 2019-06-09 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Jamie understands the need and want to find a weapon, to be prepared for anything--even to possibly find himself fighting in yet another war that others began. Perhaps what Theon's doing now should have been closer to Jamie's top priority. ]

Whatever we're asked to do here, if weapons are readily available, it doesna give me hope things will be peaceful.

lmao same....sorry right back at u

[ War is always an option in Westeros. People claimed Robert’s rule was relatively peaceful —Balon’s rebellion notwithstanding— but it doesn’t take much for any fool to spark a rebellion. It doesn’t take much to stomp one out either. ]

It’s the least they can offer. I look forward to seeing how few people actually know how to wield them.

[ He doesn't really. He doesn't want to be stuck helping when he would rather be left alone. ]

I would assume most dinna ken how to wield a sword, let alone shoot a bow.

[ Based on the way people are dressed, and that he's not seen many people carrying them, tells him most of what he wants to know about the population's willingness to carry weapons. ]

I will no' keep ye from your practice. I'll leave ye be, though in case we meet again, my name is Jamie Fraser.
