Anyone can post to the test drive meme, including duplicates! Please put your character name and canon in the title of your comment.
All threads are considered open to everyone! Tag around and make some friends (or enemies)!
If you decide to apply to the game, you can use your TDM threads for your app samples! You only need to provide seven comments if you use TDM samples.
You can't be "late" to a TDM! This will be considered open until the next one goes live next month.
You can make up your own scenario, interact with one of the locations in the game, use the welcome process of your character selecting a god house, or use our optional prompt below!
You do not need to pick a god house to play on the TDM! You can have your character still in the process of discussing/deciding/despairing instead.
If you are accepted to the game, you can keep TDM threads as game canon as long as you fudge some of the details depending on your original thread. If you aren't sure exactly how to do this, you can always ask a mod.

❧ optional scenario.
As you enter Asgard proper, many of the natives have gathered into curious crowds to greet these mysterious children of the World Tree. Some of them carry baskets of flowers and nervously offer one to any Wanderers that come near. They are vibrant and colorful, picked from the wilds surrounding Asgard, and they might have an odd effect on your character if they sniff the flowers directly.

Purple flowers will make your character very giggly and easily amused by everything they see and hear.
Orange flowers will make your character feel very warm all over, like the sun is beating down on them directly.
Blue flowers will make your character somewhat short and impatient with anything that seems like even a minor inconvenience to them.

Effects of the flowers can wear off anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. And for those new to Asgard, this scenario aligns with some of the general curses we might have in the game!

[ It takes him a moment to realise that Tessa's actually talking to him. Or at least he thinks she is, by the time he notices her looking at him. Unfortunately she's made a terrible choice, because he's been standing here for the last five minutes just looking between the gods and trying to make sense of anything of this at all. ]

Honestly? I'm kinda stuck on the whole "gods" [ complete with air quotes, ] thing.

[ Tessa huffs out a laugh before sparing a glance their way. ]

Right? Like I'm better off here than where I was, so I'm cool with doing this little song and dance if it keeps me from getting kicked out but... yeah. This definitely isn't a thing where I'm from.

[ He throws a look around. ]

Yyeeah, so far this looks better than where I came from too. Not sure I wanna stay though. Kinda left my best friend back there.

[ And, honestly, he's seriously considered the possibility that he's just dead and this is the afterlife, but what does he know. ]

[ Her expression shifts immediately to one of surprise and understanding, but she quickly looks away in an effort to cover it up. ]

Yeah, me too. I thought I'd find him here, but no luck so far. I'd rather he was here than there, though.

[ Besides, if she goes back, there's nothing she can do but die, so this is her best chance. ]

[ It's a bit of a more complicated question for him. On one hand, everything's gone to shit really really fast, and it's not difficult to be better than Pandora, but on another they were in the middle of something, could possibly find a vault and just beat everyone that ever demoted them to janitor and ... did other arguably more terrible things, and be instantly better than those assholes. And that might just be worth it.

And on a third ... hand - what - he just kind of wants to know whether or not they all die.

But he decides to not share any of that. ]

Anyway. I'm Rhys.

[ He holds out his cybernetic arm. Which at this point is just a fancy word for metal arm with basic motor capabilities because it has no other use whatsoever. He's tried. ]

Tessa.

[ She looks down at the offered hand and, whoa, that's cool. Prosthetics weren't quite so advanced yet in her time on her world. At least she doesn't think they were. Look, she wasn't subscribed to Popular Mechanics or whatever would have informed her of these things. But she takes the hand and gives it a shake. ]

I wonder if we can find out about them or if these "gods" are just as clueless as we are about how all this crap happened.

Maybe. If nothing else talking to them might help with the whole choosing one of them thing. I think that's how people usually figure out what they have in common. Just think of it like making friends! Or something, I dunno.

[ He's trying very hard to take it in stride. What's one more heap of madness to add onto the giant pile of it that he's gathered the past day or two, really? ]

I mean, that's usually how those things go, but seeing how they're calling themselves gods, I'm not sure they'll be really... I don't know, on our level?

[ He rubs the back of his neck. ]

Well, I mean-- They're physically on our level? As in, they're down here, with us, which is more than can be said for any gods I know about. I'd hope that means they're willing to have actual conversations.

Like, they're not fifty feet tall on giant golden thrones, but they do have a palace. I dunno. It's weird. Kinda not sure how to play this one.

[ So maybe she should sit back and observe how others do it first. She wouldn't want to get hit by a lightning bolt. Or is that just a thing in Greek myth? ]

[ He laughs, but it's a little unsure, like he's not convinced that's purely a joke. ]

[ She gives a shrug. ]

It's hard to know how to go into this. Like are they gonna get offended if I don't curtsy?

[ A pause. ]

Err-- Is there even a justice system here? Is it just me, or does it seem a bit like a hippie paradise?

[ She gives him a look that says "Oh, please," before gesturing to herself. ]

Sure, take everything I own, which might not even be these clothes. I might have to give them back. I dunno.

[ But as to his question, she can only give a shrug. ]

No clue. I'd hope there was something to keep people from straight up murdering each other in the streets.

Are they even aware that's an option? Because I'm pretty sure I talked to a couple of the gods, and either they're really good at acting clueless, or they really are.

I'm actually a little concerned about them.

Wait, you've talked to them already?

[ This is need to know info, dude! ]

And they're not crazy powerful scary people? They're dumb?

I talked to ... Tyr and Honir? They don't even seem to know what we eat.

[ Her brow furrows in confusion. ]

Okay, so... that sounds like it's bad. Like, their stupidity could get us killed kind of bad. Do you think the rest of them are the same?

[ A shrug. ]

Probably not? But I think we might need to ... help them out a bit, with what people actually need. Which sounds ridiculous, since they're supposedly gods but, you know.

[ Tessa huffs out a breath, but then nods in agreement. ]

Sure. It's either that or get lit on fire by accident when we say we're cold or something.

[ His eyes widen slightly. ]

I hope they're not that dumb! Pretty sure fire's pretty universally known as something that just kinda destroys things.
