Going to assume someone shows him over to Sigyn~
Until she spots him. There's dark salt-and-pepper hair anywhere. Flannel shirts are a dime a dozen. Even his beard is commonplace, but it's the way he walks that she recognizes, clear as day. She's trailed behind him over half the continental united states, she'd recognize him anywhere.]
Joel!
[She drops the basket, and nearly falls, grasping onto the branches. Several of them move to provide convenient footholds on the way down, but she still takes out a few smaller branches in her haste.]
Joel, over here!
BABY GIRL
Of course she was climbing a tree. She always was resourceful.
He rushes to her side as fast as he dares, concerned but not wanting to look too foolishly desperate and upset her even a little. When he gets to her side, he kneels down a little and grabs her face between his hands, turning it gently. ]
The hell you been, Ellie? You ain't hurt?
PAPA WOLF
She reaches up and grips his sleeve, nodding against his hands. He rarely touches her, so she knows it's a mark of just how worried he is, and she gives him about half a second to reassure himself that she's just fine.]
I'm fine, I'm fine- you're here. Holy shit, am I glad to see you.
NO GIANTS GONNA GET U WHILE DADDY'S HERE
But that ain't the point now, is it?
He drops his hands and looks at her, her fingers on his sleeve almost anchoring him a little. Nothing else mattered now; she's safe and back where she belongs, at his side. And the person that took her? Oh, they're gonna pay a hefty price. ]
Damn, what the hell's goin' on here? What're you doing wandering off like that?
[ After what happened with the horses he's kept both eyes on her at all times - well, as much as he could with an infected population out to get them. ]
YOU MEAN NOBODY'S EVER TRIED A SHOTGUN?
Yep, not poisoned, not drowned, still got all my arms and legs. I'm good, Joel- calm down.
I didn't run off. I got here the same way you did.
[She pauses, then tilts her head, making a little face.] Did you even listen to the explanation for why you're here?
[... yeah, she figures he probably just pulled out the shotgun.]
GOSH WHAT IDIOTS LET'S TEACH EM A LESSON
[ Joel gives her a bland look before he sits back on his heels. He's still not entirely sure that she is completely alive and healthy, but she's got clean clothes on and she seems to have been eating right...
It's all pretty confusing. ]
Yeah, I listened. I just didn't like what I heard.
no subject
Well, I'm here now. Don't freak out.
... I'm glad you're here, though. I almost started to worry.
no subject
[ Yeah, there's no way Joel is going to say "freaking out". He just shakes his head and sighs, all gruff again. ]
Only almost? Jeez.
no subject
[And then she stops joking about it, looking serious, and worried. Really worried.]
... it's been a couple months, Joel.
no subject
That's bullshit, Ellie.
no subject
[She's genuinely hurt, and she shoves his arm. She doesn't do that. She doesn't lie to him. Especially about such important things.]
no subject
[ he grabs her arm, gently, and pulls her close again, looking into her eyes. ]
C'mon now, kid. You gotta admit it's pretty hard to believe, right?
no subject
Sh'yeah, I know. But I wouldn't lie to you either.
... c'mon, I'll prove it.
no subject
Sure, go ahead.

She picks up one of the spilled fruits, hefting it in her palm.]
You know how they said that the gods who brought us here gave us powers? Well -- this one's mine.
[She pushes the fruit into the ground, and it sinks down into it as if the dirt were made of water. And then roots and green shoots start growing up and through her fingers, incredible creaking noises, popping, snapping as she calls the tree into being. It's almost effortless now, and within a matter of seconds it's towering above them.
Ellie ducks out from underneath it, heading back over to his side.]
Growth.
... kind of a bad joke, huh?
