He finishes talking and Jade just sort of grins, nodding at him. "Oh, you don't have to apologize to me, they didn't ask my permission either. Really boneheaded way to go about it, if you ask me, but I think we already established that they don't care."

She hesitates, trying to figure out a way to juggle the leash and the ice cream so that she can offer her hand to shake, and finally seems to realize that she simply can't.

"I'm Jade, by the way. Um- which House are you in? Do you know? Or - let me see the color of the stone on the bracelet, I can figure out from that, too!" He friendliness seems earnest, at the very least.
