monthly test drive!!

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

• Got a character you're thinking of reserving/apping this round? PUT THEM HERE!
• Threads here can count as your third person sample!
• Comment with your character's name and canon!
• Make up your own scenario or have them walk into all the doors or leave it blank for others to do it for you!

OPTIONAL SCENARIO: After your character receives his or her bracelet and the run-down from the faceless maids in the castle, the first thing they realize upon stepping outside is that the city has been all but shut down for some sort of large festival. There are stalls set up along all of the main streets, selling everything from savory foods to desserts to clothes to trinkets, and the vendors cheerfully call at people as they pass, trying to entice them over. The stalls are all decked in incredibly colorful banners and flags, as if attempting to beat back the grayness still lurking in a lot of the city by sheer physical force. Small musical ensembles play on street corners, and one can't go far at all without nearly running into someone juggling or swallowing swords. Good luck finding your god's welcome house in this chaos - the streets are pretty packed with people just milling around!

And have fun! ♥

The friendliness is welcome, at least. From her response, he immediately understands that he's not alone in this—that perhaps that is part of the cause for why she doesn't recognize him. There are heroes of all types willing to fight from all places.

"If they'd asked, it would make this process much easier." And while he wants to tell himself he'd say no, that perhaps he would take a much needed rest, he knows that isn't the case. Tired, yes, but willing to turn his back on someone in need? That's something he can't do easily.

"Anyway, I'm Harry, and—here, have a look." At that last part, he extends his hand to show her the bracelet. It's the stone indicating Heimdall.

Truth be told, he could have chosen to walk just like everyone else, but what was the point of having the gift of flight if he couldn't abuse the power? Somehow during the mild chaos of the festival he had lost track of the girl he'd arrived with. It shouldn't have been hard to spot her, especially if she was with one of their dogs.

He doesn't think much of the people below him as he hovers about six feet in the air, and likewise the people of Asgard don't seem to notice him hovering like a giant parade balloon. However, as he continues to fly around and actively look for Jade in the crowd, his eyes hone in on a totally different brunette.

...oh fuck no. No. Absolutely not. It was about then that Draco became convinced the gods really did have it out for him. Granger and Lovegood were one thing (and even Weasley for that brief period), but this was entirely unacceptable. He's only a few feet behind Harry, but when he speaks he makes sure his voice is loud enough.

"Why so tense, Potter?" The words lack a little of their bite, but his expression is definitely one of a boy who is not happy to see the Chosen One.

Well, alright, not quite that long, but it had felt like forever since he'd been with her. So much had happened since; sure, there were good times, but the bad times were so much worse. If the gods had more control over who they pick up, he mused to himself, I might be inclined to think they were being kind.

But of course they weren't, and Charley being here is a happy accident. Then again, after what had happened recently, maybe it isn't so happy. Eight swallows hard, trying not to think of one of those creatures cutting this precious girl down. That would certainly be the thing that might drive him completely over the edge this time.

When she squeezes his hand, he squeezes back, and smiles gently at her. It took everything he had not to just blurt out all his regrets for things he's done, since most of what he'd say would have to do with things she hasn't lived through yet. "You have no idea how pleased I am to see you," he says, brushing his thumb along her knuckles.

"And...no, from what I gather, you will be put right where you were. I'm not even sure you'll remember this. Also, I'm the only Eighth Doctor here, though there are a few past and future incarnations of me running around. You'll meet them soon, I'm sure."

Wonderful. Truly wonderful.

If there was ever a moment in which he thought this was a legitimate circumstance where people were absolutely needed, it faded almost immediately. Oh, Harry does feel differently about Malfoy these days. At one point, the boy had saved his life, and in another, his mother had saved him. Both times meant that Harry had to come to a different opinion on it all.

But that doesn't mean he's glad to see him, nor does it mean he's interested in this "friendly" conversation.

Self-consciously—even if Harry would be the last to admit it's that—Harry changes his stance and looks around, trying to be at ease. It's not easy, but he can try, can't he?

"I thought you might be here," he lies. "I sensed it." That's his answer for being "so tense." Harry sets his jaw and doesn't explain himself further. No reason to, right?

So she does recognize him, after all. That brief moment of thinking that she didn't, that anyone didn't, went by pretty fast. Harry tries to hide his disappointment. It's not that he minds the fact that he's done the deeds to earn the attention—especially his most recent, taking down Voldemort once and for all—but that's just another side to everything that he wishes he didn't have to deal with. He'll never be very good at it.

But he doesn't lie. There's no use, is there? Plus, circumstances have changed, and he's no longer a wanted criminal. Maybe he'll bask in the fact that there is very little chance that, in the future, he'll have to dread anyone recognizing him for reasons beyond the very same ones that greeted him when he first stepped (back) into the wizarding world.

"That's right. I'm Harry Potter," he says with a nod, keeping his tone as light as possible. "And I'd appreciate that. Thank you."

"More than one Doctor, well, I'm surprised you haven't burnt the whole city down in that case." Charley's clearly teasing, and she tugs at his hand a bit to start them walking, since the stalls are all quite interesting and she'd like to look at them a bit if nothing else. Once he's walking next to her, she'll just shift their hands... like... so. There, her fingers laced through his, just as it should be.

"Still, at least there's only one of you," she adds. "I love you dearly, Doctor, but I do not fancy having another go at handling multiple yous."
wasthemaster: (I wish you'd get on with it already)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-24 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
And to think that he was just starting to tolerate Granger. Oh well. Nothing lasts forever, after all. He doesn't respond immediately, just floating closer to stare him down and try to read his expression a bit better. 'Now let's see...is this a Potter who knows the war is won, or is this a Potter who's just as clueless as I was before Granger told me everything?' The sneer almost falls back into place immediately and he can't help but snort at that answer.

"Of course you did." He doesn't believe it, but only because he's stubborn and doesn't want to believe that it's possible Potter could be a bit more aware than himself. It would be a lie to say that Draco didn't bother checking the traveler's list every couple of days just in case this very thing happened. However, he hadn't today. He hadn't checked anything because of Jade and her insistance to drag him to this festival.

It was a bit strange staring at Potter now, knowing what he knows in regards to his mother saving the boy's life and in regards to fiendfyre. Draco himself still had the memories of Malfoy Manor fresh in his mind. After all, that was the last thing he remembered before being dumped off into Asgard. He wasn't going to let on that he was a bit unnerved though. That most certainly wouldn't do.

Besides, he rather liked the height advantage he currently had.

"My question now is why the hell they'd bring you here after all this time."

"Hermione is here?" he blurts out quickly, not hiding his enthusiasm. If Hermione is here, then that's good. He does note that she seems to imply that it's more than just Luna and Hermione. "Luna, too. Wow." And before him, even—that part doesn't escape him, even if he knows they're just as deserving and willing to help out in something like this.

His enthusiasm does subside almost immediately, though. Logic comes in the moment he starts to piece it together, because ... logic tells him that as far as he knows, Hermione is back home. Very much back home, even. Luna is the same, though she's harder to account for.

"But ... they can't be," he says finally. He had been following, but he stops, shaking his head. "You must be mistaken."

"Realized their mistake in bringing you here first, most likely," he says smoothly, the reply bouncing back just too easily. A part of Harry realizes that perhaps he shouldn't be so harsh. After what Draco has been through, it's almost pointless to continue on the same vein. But even with things playing out differently than he might have expected, there is still that stubborn nagging part of him that just never liked Draco Malfoy. It had happened very quickly from the first time they met.

"It's fine, Malfoy. I've come to do what I can. So you can go back to whinging or whatever rubbish it is you do in your spare time."

He doesn't, even if he wants to, give in to the urge to ask Draco why it is that he's able to fly. Back home, flying isn't that unusual with the right spell, but he knows already that he can't do that. So, if Draco is able to for some reason, that puts him at an unwanted disadvantage. The last thing Harry wants is to draw attention to that.

This doesn't sound like any magic he knows, but gods are a whole different playing field. (Quidditch pitch?)

"From what you're saying, Hermione and Luna have been here before I arrived." He's clever enough to grasp that, anyway, especially since she knows they all work with magic. He's surprised that it's been related so freely, but these circumstances are a bit unusual. "But what you've said explains it."

He finally nods and takes a step toward, indicating he still wants to move. That is, once the dog's done finishing the ice cream cone. Harry idly wonders if people were supposed to give dogs ice cream cones, but she's a girl with dog ears, so she likely knows better than he does. "And we do have magic. How much has Hermione told you, anyway?"

Mistake. That's been his favorite word lately, and his expression falters a bit at the use. "Not much of a mistake if I've been here this long." In the same way that Potter realizes it, Draco realizes there's really no point in continuing their rivalry now knowing what he knows. But just because he realizes it doesn't mean he has to abide by it. Asgard was confusing enough as it was. Everything he was discovering about the city and about himself was confusing enough as it was. Maybe having Potter around to antagonize was the gods' way of giving him something familiar and constant.

Draco, of course, had a whole other story about Potter that he hadn't bothered really delving into. But that was neither here nor there.

"If by rubbish you mean fighting in the war here and actually being more productive than you've ever dreamed of being? Sure, I'll get right to that." He didn't expect the brunette to really believe him, but he was also finding that to be a bit infuriating. He wasn't entirely sure why it was so important to prove to Potter of all people that he was better...

...oh, right. Because that's what he's always done. "You can't do much if you're completely lost. You realize that, don't you?"

Eight chuckles and dutifully obeys her unspoken directive, feigning a look of offense. "I'll have you know, Charlotte Pollard, that we've worked fairly well together so far." It's true, actually. Quite remarkably, they've worked pretty well as a team.

"Charley...you know, a lot of things have happened to me, and I may never get the chance to say this again, so..." He glances down at her while they walk, fingers laced tightly together. "I'm sorry. For every hurtful thing I've said to you. And yes, I mean the things from your time. Things you'd remember, I mean. Oh, and I meant everything else."

He gives her a little grin, hoping she realizes what he means.

"You do realize just how suspicious that sounds, don't you?" Harry asks. Truthfully, he isn't certain it's suspicious so much as him really wanting to know who it is. Harry admits to himself that it might be the second one. Jade seems to know an awful lot about everything, anyway, and it doesn't make sense that she would mention but say that it doesn't matter who it is.

To him, anyway, that means she doesn't want him to know.

"I'd like to know who it is." There. That'll move things along.

That last bit actually makes him smirk in response, but he stifles it—whoever it happened to be, they weren't very good at hiding how they were originally. Harry wonders: that description could fit just about anyone. But then again, spending a year following Malfoy around made him rather obsessed with the boy's existence. He wants to assume it's anyone else, because there are a lot of people, but few fit the description of "didn't like him" and "could also change" while being an "assface" at one point.

He doesn't want to assume too quickly, but if it is him, he'd rather know now. Putting it off just because he doesn't want it to be Malfoy won't help anyone.

"It's not Malfoy, is it?" he asks. He phrased the question carefully, hoping that it wouldn't be him. Harry looks at Jade, silently hoping that she means anyone else. Percy, for instance, could be a bit of an "assface." Then aagin, Percy doesn't dislike him that terribly much, and he was there right along with everyone else in the final battle.

"I'll find my way quick enough," he responds, voice clipped and uneasy. No, he's not going to admit he's lost, why would he? Though now Harry feels rather silly about not trying to find his way through the numerous people. If he had managed that, he wouldn't be standing here right now with Malfoy having to have this conversation. He might have gotten out a bit more easily, and honestly, he wishes he had. Talking to Malfoy like this isn't a highlight of his life.

But when is it ever?

"And in case you've forgotten, I've a fair amount of experience in wars." Harry lets that lie, just for a moment. He looks smug before he continues. "But that's right. From your side, things looked a bit different, didn't they? Still, it's a good thing I settled all of that." Not everything, but Harry doesn't bother to add any corrections to his words. Malfoy doesn't need him to, and if he's going to start pointing out how much needs to be fixed and how many people died, then his flight is truly going to remain his only advantage.

As for fighting and helping in the war, Harry doesn't believe it at all. He does know that Malfoy isn't as morally wrong as many of the other Death Eaters, but he isn't bothering to point that out just yet. Maybe he just stubbornly wants to believe he still has this to hold over Malfoy's head. Who knows?

His nostrils flare a bit and it takes a bit of willpower not to lower himself to the ground to stare him in the eye. Instead he just folds his arms over his chest, lifting an eyebrow. Talking to Potter isn't a highlight of his life either, but he can't seem to end the conversation for the life of him.

"And in case you've forgotten, so've I." There's a very indignant sound though at the second comment. "Settled all of it?" That's as much of a confirmation as he needs and that bothers him even more so. "Not soon enough, I wager."

Had this been a couple years ago, Harry would have promptly corrected her. He does feel a little agitated at her defense of him, but he recognizes that that's just him. Harry doesn't hold it against her, and the truth is ... he actually believes her. Draco Malfoy, above all other things, is someone who couldn't kill Albus Dumbledore.

He's someone who saved his life.

And then, Malfoy's mother saved his in due time.

So while agitation does cross his features, he eventually looks uneasy. That uneasiness is mostly because this is ... not what he expected. A ringing endorsement of Draco Malfoy and how he's changed while fighting someone else's war is certainly new.

"We won't ever get along," is what he finally tells her. Before that, he certainly seemed like he was grasping for the right words. "It's been far too long for that." He knows his words aren't encouraging, but they are truthful. Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy shall never be friends seems to be on a rulebook somewhere. What he doesn't admit to himself is that he kind of likes that status quo.

She never would've said, of course, but part of her has wondered. After all, that was a particularly painful and trying time for both of them, and she's never been entirely sure what things he meant. Or what things she meant, for that matter, save one.

One thing she had never not meant.

And that little grin, the way he walks so close so that their arms are brushed together, on top of everything else (her insecurities aside)... well. It's nice to have an apology, of course, considering how hurtful some of the things he said were. But "everything else"...

Of COURSE I loved you! ...of course I love you.

"Really?" Her smile is small, but oh so bright. It gets right in her eyes, makes them sparkle. "Well all... that," she gestures vaguely with her partially eaten meat pasty, "goes for me, too. Especially the everything else."
