How do I quantify the dazzling trainwreck of our threads, Folded. Tell me how.

Dirk is...probably the most important person Davesprite has met in Asgard, without having previous CR (though obviously deeply affected by the fact that, well, they're Striders). At first, he was kind of put off by him? When Dirk went and made assumptions about his circumstances in their very first thread (which was emotionally all over the place, but mood whiplash is normal for Homestuck). And then...weird things happened and they kind of reconciled and defaced the city together.

But the dream event made Davesprite realize really quickly how far he's willing to go for Dirk. Just on the principle of him being his bro, even if he isn't Bro. Though in its way, it's a relief he isn't Bro, because Davesprite doesn't really know how to deal with that. Like...that's three years of getting over the death of the man who raised him, shot down by the fact no one stays dead in this city. And, for Davesprite at least, Dirk exists well outside Bro's shadow. There's definitely an odd kind of overlap, mostly in the way he conceptualizes the whole idea of having a brother, but they're distinctly different people. Their dynamic is far different and devoid of the hero worship, even if Davesprite definitely respects Dirk. He respects him a hell of a lot, actually, and his protectiveness is probably exacerbated by the fact sometimes Dirk reminds him of Rose.

It's partially because of that respect and the fact Davesprite can't make anything easy with canonmates that he's even more determined to avoid him. He realized on some level that, yeah, Dirk was far more likely to come after him than most of his other CR; Dave is still him in some ways, Jade tried and failed and moved on, John punched his previous Asgard self, Rose is gone, etc. But Dirk has Dave and anyone who has the real thing shouldn't have to deal with a janky, molting ripoff on the side. Kidbro deserves better, especially when Davesprite is just going to die in the end.

And the reminder that he's always on a timer makes him retroactively mad at himself for going with Dirk to get Calliope. Because Dave probably would have taken care of it and Dave's the one who should have been there. That Davesprite let his guard down at all around Dirk and gave himself the chance to hang out with him, to actually get to know him, has a gigantic red stamp of FUCKUP on it. So, while Dirk's reaction and that whole Strider log was really fucking upsetting, Davesprite figures it's better in the long run. Because it means he probably won't try again and Davesprite can be an obnoxious mopey bird in some remote part of the city by himself. Whoo.

He...really hopes Dave does keep a close eye on kidbro, though. The dreams gave him a kind of uncomfortable sense of well, that sure is kind of familiar and he doesn't like it at all. And you can bet your ass that if Dirk gets picked for the strike team and Davesprite is on the defense team, it will be awkward as balls and probably filled with surreptitious attempts to keep an eye on him the whole time.

I love how they pick up on each other's issues in subtle ways. They really will be so very awkward if they're picked for those respective teams. Dirk especially. But he'd try to keep an eye on him until he dove into the heart of icey hell.

It's like Dirk's standing on one side of a funhouse mirror and instead of seeing Hal, there's Davesprite.

Though speaking of Hal, I genuinely do not know how CR would work between him and Davesprite. The fact Dirk prototyped him is pretty uncomfortable, but I'm not sure if they'd actually get along. ngl, I kept waiting for his dream appearance to piss off Davesprite.

Man, yeah. I kept WAITING for Hal to piss him off. I think shades wear!Hal would be even more dubious because he'd have a body of his own here and be pretty much unchecked.

I was really surprised they got through that as well as they did, especially when it started off with so much tension. And then it just...sort of petered out? So fucking weird. Although that also happened with Dirk, where Davesprite was on edge and he just...couldn't stay that way, for whatever reason. I do think things would probably be worse the earlier Hal is from canon, though.

Yeah, the earlier Hal is from canon. The worst it will be between him and Dirk too. Though part of the animosity would be thwarted by the id on the network. Hal can't present himself as Dirk when they have separate ids.

ftr, Davesprite does feel kind of weird using the same text color as Dirk sometimes. But the fact he typed in hot pink in their first actual network conversation made it less awkward, weirdly enough.

It makes Dirk feel kinda awkward they use the same text color but at the same time it kinda excited him. Because eee bro uses the same text color! etc. He was a fanboy at first, god I'm embarrassed.
