Man, I'm not even really sure where to start?

In their first conversation, he went from indifferent to oh, I guess she's kind of cool to talk to alarmingly fast. Like, holy shit, Davesprite, you don't even know if you're talking to a human girl. You have no idea what she looks like, she could be some kind of evil tentacle monster out to consume your flesh.

Then there's the dream threads and hers really ground in the fact that Naminé has led a fucked up life. While he doesn't know the details, Davesprite can fill in enough of the gaps. He's already an inherently protective person and her dream really hit a lot of those buttons. However, now that he's seen the differences between her then and now, he is subconsciously aware of the fact that, yeah, she's tougher than she looks. There's a level of respect for that, coupled with the fact she's still so inherently nice. She reminds him of Jade in that sense, though it's less direct parallels and only the vaguest notion of association.

Dave's dream, however, put up red flags all around her. While Dave seems to be way less aware of it, Davesprite attributes a lot of significance to the fact she showed up in a nightmare and was there to help him. It tells him to stay the hell away, because it sure as fuck isn't going to end well for anyone involved otherwise. Naminé knew Dave first, Dave knew her first, and there's no reason for her to deal with two of them hanging around.

He never should have hung out with her after that. But he did and he regrets it and he feels a little bad for shutting her out. Even if he does think it's better that way.

I'm...actually not sure what's going to happen with them now. His canonmates largely have the benefit of shared history or other relations, whereas Naminé...doesn't. Davesprite perceives her major tie to the cast to be Dave and that will always deeply affect the way he interacts with her.

So I should probably start by saying that for all my joking about it, all my talk of Dave's feelings on Naminé is purely speculation? Because as of right now, she's just a really nice girl he can sit down with, listen to jams, and be an utter dork and it's kind of nice because it's also pretty relaxing and... honestly, Dave can go either way, whether he could start developing a crush on her, or just wanting to be friends? ~~Even though I'm pretty sure I know where it's going, I don't like to corner myself.~~ Anyway.

With that in mind, let's assume for a moment that by some twist of fate all our OOC knowledge became IC knowledge. Like, major feelings jams and maybe a couple of ministrifes, idefk. But all our junk is now just hanging out there, catching the breeze, how are you today guys?

He'd pretty much know right off the bat what sort of effect Naminé would have on Davesprite, because. Well. /gestures. Duh. And he would pretty much back away, because seriously? If it's really easy to relax, and be an utter dork, and not care so much about posturing and looking cool (even though he does still want to be cool for Naminé) for him, he'd want Davesprite to have something like that too? Because when it comes down to it, the dude needs it way more than Dave does.

He'd never stop being Naminé's friend, because she's Naminé, and she's cool as shit, but he would pretty much insist that Davesprite ascend the friend-ladder here.

So basically, what I'm saying is, he'd probably do the same thing that Davesprite would do... except instead of avoiding her he would pull some strings and bring them together with AJ, nachos, comics, and sweet jams.

Which makes him not a douche, but a wingman, ironically.

He knows (maybe only vaguely, but the general sense is there) what would happen if they ever liked the same girl. Hell, it's a scenario that is unmercifully plausible in its likelihood and actually contributed to his behavior towards Terezi, because he refuses to like her, ever. Not even as a friend at this point.

I mean, he doesn't perceive Dave as having a crush on Naminé or whatever right now. But he's at a point where he can pick up warning signs and that's kind of why he's actively destroying any positive effect she might have on him? No matter what, Dave was first.

Also, Davesprite refuses to date anyone ever again. He's good as dead and Asgard lacks a sense of permanence. It was bad enough with Jade, back when he thought maybe there was a loophole or something (or maybe he was just a stupid birdsprite with a crush), and he will not do that to someone ever again.

...Man, now I'm trying to figure out if someone trying to set him up would actually make him angry. Depends on the scenario.

Yeah, no, Dave is utterly oblivious to (the possibility of) it. Mostly because it's already really fucking messy with Tz right now (and that's a whoooooooooooooole other can of worms) and partly because of Asgard's sense of permanence (or lack thereof). And really, he's hopping on the no-dating bandwagon once him and Tz are over. Fuck relationships. So it probably wouldn't matter anyway?

But still. You really have to stop being so hard on yourself dude. It kills him.

And jeez, dude, it isn't as simple as her wanting to be friends with both of them. Otherwise, hanging out with Jade and John would be a non-issue. I think a lot of Davesprite's issues were exacerbated by John, though, given how much influence he's always exerted over Dave. So when your best friend basically denies your existence...it gets complicated. Rose is maybe the only kid he wouldn't completely cut ties with (and only if she outright said something along the lines of don't you dare leave me behind) and that's because he still feels super responsible, especially if he finds out about the alcoholism. He never did get over leaving her behind in the dead-end timeline.

When he resurrects, he's going to the library just because it reminds him of her and he's going to find the worst book of wizard shit and steal it. Not even read it, just steal it and leave it in his room somewhere.

He's so hideously self-destructive and, while I don't think he realizes how destructive he is (and why it's hilarious he side-eyed Kanaya and Draco so much during the dream event), it is part of why he avoids a lot of direct interaction with Dave. Because he can spot something is wrong, even if he's not sure what.

idk, at least he'd never resort to hurting himself physically. He takes all his anger and self-loathing out in ways that he just. Kind of subconsciously maneuvers into being really bad for himself. Which is why he's going to get killed by the Condesce, especially if he knows Dirk's dead.

Speaking of Dirk, though, Davesprite is locating Dave asap, if/when he finds out about it. To just quietly chill and watch each other's backs until they get split up by accident and end up dying. God, the levels of Strider incompetence this time around are unreal.

You know what's funny? What's funny is that.... even if Dave knew exactly how self-destructive Davesprite is, he still wouldn't draw attention to it. I think that is in part why he did defend him in that strife log. When Dirk mentioned how Davesprite had been avoiding them, Dave entirely avoided talking about it. It's like... I don't know. Some secret handshake sort of deal. Cigar club, bitches.

Oh god, yes. That. If Dave were the first to discover it, you can bet he's locating Davesprite as soon as fucking possible. Watch each other's backs, yes. Until Davesprite goes and gets himself killed.

I think that makes sense, though? They're very private guys, so I could see them not wanting to discuss it. Though it does extend, in Davesprite's case, to him not wanting to shove that on Dave. He already feels like he kind of dropped the responsibility of timeline management on him and bailed.

I'm not sure how it'll play out yet, but Dave probably just won't be able to find Davesprite at all when the last log rolls around. So idk, he can draw his own conclusions from there. Though now that I think about it, I have no idea if John or Roxy will be there. idk who else by way of important I-am-overprotective-of-you CR is going beyond Naminé and Terezi for Dave.

Guess we'll find out one way or another. Deeply affected by that or not, she's not about to let him go running off for any reason other than perhaps if there were some kind of insinuation that he just didn't want to be around her. Other than that, he's liable to get accosted at random, should he ever be caught, and forced to converse on pain of linefacing.

The second she hears about any of his reasoning on that, however, is probably about a fraction of a second before she reams him out for it, by which I mean she will tear him a new one in the nicest way possible, because that hits more than a few of her own buttons as far as protectiveness/helping people with their Issues is concerned.

Haha, well, I admit she'll have a hell of a time catching him at random. He doesn't spend much time on the ground or in appropriately inhabited parts of the city anymore and literally the only people who might be able to find him on a whim are Dave and Dirk. And...he's probably stepped up his avoidance tactics for Dave, at least.

But she'll probably pick up on the implications of why he's avoiding her, at least, though I doubt he'll ever come right out and say it. idk, he's in a really weird spot right now and he is super guarded with Naminé.

See, that's what wars and curses and getting concerned because she didn't see him come back from previously stated battles are for. She could be pretty good at getting information if necessary, but... yeah. Intrusion levels, how high are you allowed to go.

Fortunately or otherwise, she is pretty good with implications. As for being guarded, welp. Good luck with that one, Davesprite. This'll be interesting. /o/
