[He snaps around at that voice, and his face lights up]

Merlin! What's going on here?

[That answers the question, at least. Lancelot must have just arrived, if his confusion's anything to go by. Good--it means his friend hasn't been wandering about the city all on his lonesome.]

It is you! [In the next moment, Merlin's by Lancelot's side, throwing his arms around the knight and laughing.] Oh, it's good to see you. Arthur will be glad you're here, too.

[Have a confused swordsman blinking and staring before awkwardly putting your back, there.]

Merlin - I only just saw you - where is here?

It's...complicated. [Merlin pulls back, making a face. There's a lot to tell you, and it's going to take a while.]

At least I found you just as you arrived. Usually I just see the messages on the network and I have to go looking for everyone.

[His enthusiasm finally dims just a smidgeon.] Actually, we should just get this out of the way now. What's the last thing you remember?

The last thing I remember?

[Cryptic much?]

We parted ways after rescuing - Gwen - it was only a few hours ago - why do you ask that, what do you remember?

Parted ways--oh. Ohhhhhh.

[Well, this is awkward. He didn't mention anything about Camelot and being a knight yet, right? Not that it'd stay a secret much longer, if Merlin's hunch is correct. Arthur did just knight Lancelot in their time, and he'd probably remedy Lancelot's lack of title within the first day.]

Er, getting to that now. It'll sound sort of ridiculous, but just trust me on this, all right?

Merlin, you know you have my trust. Just tell me - what is going on?

[This doesn't sound good at all, why is he getting a feeling he won't like this one bit? And that the last thing he remembers is far from the last thing on Merlin's mind, as strange as that may be?]

You--you got a letter, didn't you? We've been brought here by the gods of this city. And, well, time works strangely here.

[Why is it that explaining this never gets easier?]

The point you're from was actually more than two years ago for me.

-- two years ago?

[Excuse the momentary shock here please, just kindly count to ten while he tries to process this.]

It's been - two years. But then - [no, he can't do it. He can't even decide what to ask first.]

[Quick, to New Camelot!! Thankfully, the walk isn't too far from where they already are, so Merlin simply drags Lancelot along and situates him on the couch.]

I told you it's a lot to take in.

At least I know you've managed to keep your head for two years more.

[Open with a joke? It's a thing, right? But he appreciates the support afforded by the couch.]

Yeah... [There's just a bit of humourlessness in the smile Lancelot gets in return. Keeping his head is a small comfort when it feels like everything is still going wrong.]

Arthur's made you a knight, you know. At least one of our dreams came true.

[Head is snapping up like a thing that snaps!]

He did? [Wait hold on he shouldn't be as thrilled as he feels because that should mean -] Then King Uther...?

[The smile slides right off his face, and there's an awkward pause.]

He's...alive. Still recovering from the latest magic attack. [He doesn't have the heart to even mention the bitter, resentful version of the woman in Asgard.] I think you're safe.

[That doesn't sound particularly encouraging - not to Arthur at least. It definitely puts a damper on his happiness to know what it cost the man he came to respect so much to be able to give him this gift.

BUT. That doesn't mean he needs to bring Merlin down, so he shakes his head, and even though it's only been a short while for him he can still say sincerely with a small smile - ]

It's good to see you, Merlin.

You have no idea.

[He takes the seat next to Lancelot, sigh gusting out of him noisily.]

It takes some getting used to, but this place isn't all bad. What house were you put in anyway?

Heimdall, I think it was called?

[Those names don't exactly roll off his tongue]

Where are you placed?

I had a feeling it would be that house. [Lancelot pretty much fits the traits that Sam mentioned in his guide.]

That's the house Morgana and Arthur are in, too. Gwen and I are in Sigyn.

[He waves a hand, gesturing at their surroundings.] This is our home, though. We all moved out of the welcome halls ages ago. You should stay with us!

[The same house with both Pendragons? He might be a little proud.]

That would not be a bother?

Of course not! You're our friend, aren't you?

[He gives Lancelot's shoulder a friendly nudge.]

Leon and Gwaine have gone home, so there's an extra room that's just empty.

[He smiles at that]

Thank you - I'll pull my weight.

[And he's getting the room that belonged to a real knight of Camelot??? And --]

Who is Gwaine?

Oh--right, you haven't met him yet.

Gwaine's a commoner like you [Well, not really, but he'd like to pretend he is] and Percival and Elyan. Arthur knighted all of you when you came to his aid not too long ago.

[Merlin pauses.] For us, I mean. It was about a month after Camelot was attacked.

Camelot was attacked? By whom? Was it safe when you left it?

[Suddenly knighthood and houses and Gods are the last things on his mind.]

Just...some sorcerers. [Merlin freezes guiltily for a second, but manages to hide it with a sheepish grin.] You know...the usual.

If it isn't magical creatures, it's someone set on revenge. And yeah, it was safe when we left.

[There's an immediate sigh of relief]

A kingdom as great as Camelot draws many enemies.

[As does a king such as Uther.]
