her fingers traced over the bracelet while her thoughts remained on the letter. there had to have been some underlying meaning. "the greater good" is definitely a questionable expression and wasn't sure what laughter or tears had to do with anything.
unfortunately, because of these distractions, joan didn't see the uneven ice as she walked, resulting in a slip and fall. while she didn't yell out, her jaw clenched and her eyes shut tightly, waiting for the pain to pass. )

Magic itself is still something that Sherlock is working out. It's one of the many mysteries that this world has suddenly provided him with, and he's willing to explore it—to some extent, anyway. A cursory knowledge will be useful, but he doesn't want to devour information that isn't useful. (No matter how much Joan insists that a brain doesn't work like an overfilled attic.)
But the fact that magic can be set to a clock. Ah, that part is useful, so he picks a place near the castle to sit for the day. He's not outside, of course, but rather in, drinking a cup of tea that's refilled (it's decaffeinated, and the waitress is curious as to why he's had so much). The names that appear on the list for the inboxes are largely unfamiliar—save for one. Right above John Watson appears Joan Watson, and sure enough, when Sherlock looks out the window, he sees her exiting the castle.
It wasn't that he hoped she would come here. Sherlock estimates that there are a great many things about Asgard that will frustrate Joan. He's developed a very long list. But he can warn her about them later.
For now, he sets down money (the exact amount plus twenty-percent tip) and heads out of the restaurant, bracelet slid back on his wrist as he strides up to her, head straight up and shoulders slightly thrown back.]
You're late, Watson. [It's not accusatory in the least. He even proceeds with his words:] Not that that's your fault, but you have much to catch up on. [Such as the matter of Moriarty and her presence here. But he doesn't go on yet, simply waiting for her response.
He is glad she is there. And though neither of them need that kind of reassurance from the other, some part of him worried he'd be caught here for some time without her. It's a point of awareness that's been in the back of his mind since around the second day since he first arrived, but it's also one he'd never vocalize. Not readily, anyway. At least, not to anyone but her.]

admittedly, seeing sherlock offers her some relief; the confusion of the last hour left joan somewhat panicked. even if the answers to her questions hadn't presented themselves entirely, at least having sherlock with her offers some support. )
Late to where exactly?
( also she isn't exactly sure what she needed catching up on since she literally saw sherlock not too long ago but it seems as though there was more at work than she was aware. part of her can't help but feel irritated and behind since, judging from his tone, he obviously knew more than her about their situation. the other part of her was curious enough to find out. their relationship had progressed into one of mutual respect and so learning from each other was a part of the deal.
still, this was certainly far beyond the norm of what she adjusted to over the time spent with sherlock, but then again, what was really considered normal for a consulting detective? )

It's a little more of a fluid state of being than it might be usually. There is no train to catch to Asgard, after all. [He does pause, giving a faint and ironic smile.] From New York, at any rate. The citizens of the other nations here would beg to differ. [It's unnecessary blathering on, though.]
We should go visit your district first. What god ... claimed you, so to speak? [His eyes do fall to her wrist to see her bracelet, but he still allows her to answer the question out of respect.]

( joan remembers the letter said that as well. it had been a lot to take in when the faceless woman had dumped the information on her but she remembered the name of the goddess that claimed her. )
Sigyn, I think. I'm not familiar with her. ( her eyes followed his to the bracelet. ) The stone signifies the god or goddess?
( she backtracks for a moment. ) What do you mean my district? Are you staying somewhere else? ( although it isn't exactly fear, she isn't particularly keen on separating. she asks the question, though she's already begun to piece together the situation based on what the woman had said. )

And separate for the time being. I believe we can procure ourselves positions of employment to afford a small place, as our money is otherwise ... useless here. [And though he believes that they can solve cases for the natives, they'll still need a supplementary income.] It will be temporary. But as it remains temporary, I should warn you right away: Moriarty is here, and claims to be from the future. A time after her release. I've found no reason to believe otherwise. But she likes to pay ... house calls.
[His face scrunches up slightly at the memory, and he looks ahead. He knows it's a great deal of information to process, so he allows her to do so.]

( moriarty. that's someone who they couldn't seem to get away from lately. she looks away, but says nothing for a moment. the subject had presented itself to them earlier when they had dealt with moriarty and who they later found to be moriarty's daughter. it was a delicate subject that joan needed to float well. sherlock's feelings about moriarty would probably be better discussed at a later time. ) Has she tried anything while she was here? Reestablish her criminal network?

That's not to say he wouldn't have restarted it himself. But he was stalling, being stubborn, and perhaps hoping he might be released from that. A fleeting hope, really.]
Barring that sole limitation, I've found myself needing to tag along with her. But I've not been completely successful. [There's a pause, and when he picks up again, he sounds rather more emphatic, as if this is a frustration that's been boiling beneath the surface just waiting to be let go of.] I know not who she associates with or if she has any schemes arising. She has taunted people with her usage of Greek over these bracelets, but otherwise—[The tension doesn't leave him at all, but he does slump somewhat.] There is nothing. But there are no immediate murders. As far as I know. There is a war, and it is a pressing concern, of which I'm sure she intends to use as an opportunity.

if moriarty really was from at a later point in time after being released from jail, was she reformed? possibly. in all honesty though, the suspicions that she (and sherlock, given his actions) has of moriarty probably would never subside, especially after everything she put them through. )
Maybe between the two of us we'll be able to monitor her more closely. She may not have access to her resources though, which makes her less of a threat to others. ( still, joan knew that she was on par with sherlock with regard to intelligence and could manipulate others if she chose to. when he mentions the war, she looks up, her eyes widening. ) A war? Between who?
no subject
After all, though she claims to be from the future, he wants to know more. She drops hints often enough, but some part of him dislikes it. It's either his vanity, or something more.
(It's the lack of control. The very conceptualization that he is one step behind. Sherlock loathes it greatly.)]
I've even been to a battle already. It wasn't an experience I'd soon repeat. [But he has a feeling he will. Of course he will.]
no subject
So to summarize, people are being pulled from different places to Asgard where frost giants and gods are a text message away?
( somehow that hallucination idea she had a while ago was seeming more and more appealing.
at the mention of having gone to war, part of joan becomes angry. as consultants, self-defense training was important, sure, but at the end of the day, they weren't trained for actual combat: their battles were confined to solving crimes. )
And what made you decide to go to battle? ( she maintains a controlled tone, but a firmness underlies it. )

Which, speaking of:]
And Moriarty was on her way to be supportive. I intended to do the same. Deliver water, ensure people are returned to camp. Similar tasks like that. [There is a pointed pause.] She ... disappeared at one point. I've not yet found cause for it, but I am still looking. [But he knows his ability to find clarity when it comes to her is sometimes nonexistent. It's frustrating, and the look on his face seems to indicate that he feels the full weight of it.]
no subject
( but she did know better by this point, joan shakes her head, frustrated by the other woman. it's amazing how one other person can become such a huge pain. )
Like I said though, we'll figure out what her plans are together. You mentioned that I'd be staying somewhere different than you. I'm guessing a different god claimed you?
