[ He had taken to purveying the crowd and cataloguing what Asgard had considers as norms. The gravel of the street and the way the pavement holds dirt is carefully indexed. Along with inhabitants, fashion trends and generally trying to pick out keywords from the random strangers that pass. He will stand perhaps perfectly still in the middle of the sidewalk to simply observe. It takes him five whole minutes to realize that John is next to him and another two to reply. His mind preoccupied by his predicament. ]

[ He will turn to face the other man when he focuses back to reality. ]

- Watson, lovely that you've come to join me.

[Time enough for Watson, familiar with Holmes' methods, to fish in his pockets for pipe and tobacco. He'd almost got as far as lighting it when Holmes speaks -- timing impeccable as always.]

[ It's the tobacco that pings him. He takes a good long whiff of the air. He has a taste for more exotic vices but this will do in short notice. ]

A manner of perception. I am not late, you are simply early.

Dutiful of you to have prepared a pipe in advance.

[That gets Holmes a very significant look.]

Did you even notice I was missing?

[ Curious quirk of an eyebrow. ]

I wouldn't regard a few days as missing. I was under the impression that you were thoroughly occupied by your marriage. Which I am banned from playing any part of. [ huff ]

You're a doctor. What sort of self-respecting doctor implores the vice of tobacco?

[ He'll make the give it here motion. ]

[Watson digs in his jacket pocket to dig out his notebook (coincidentally leaving his pipe open and unguarded by slipping it into his other jacket pocket to concentrate on book).]

I have been in Asgard ... [flipping through pages --]

23 days, precisely. [Snapping book shut triumphantly -- how do you like those facts, Holmes?]

[ He will pause to think. ]

If you had been missing for that long, the nanny would have noticed and screeched to my person about the matter. But, Asgard?

[ He'll attempt to nick the pipe. ]

23 days, Holmes.

[Watson's going to wave his pocketbook at you, Holmes. In the process you may notice subtle changes that back up this statement -- Watson's more closely shaven than usual thanks to breakthroughs in razor technology (apparently those adverts didn't lie), he's changed his aftershave to something more synthetic than his usual, and the tobacco in that pipe you're filching is not his usual brand of Arcadia either.]

Asgard, didn't you listen to the maid? I'll admit it is hard to believe, but now you're here I've no doubt we'll get to the bottom of it!
