Elena pauses in the doorway of the main building, hand on the frame. She was still processing what the maid had told her about bringing life to the world and expected to see a desolate, barren place outside the doors. She expected to find suffering. But instead, she finds a festival. She frowns, glancing behind herself, and tries to make the math work. Unfortunately no matter how she crunches the numbers, two and two does not make five even if there's no denying that there appears to be some kind of celebration going on.
Elena steps into the crowd, determined to navigate her way to where she's supposed to be staying. Business first, fun later. That seems to be defining her life more and more every day. It's hard to believe there was a point in her life where she didn't have to worry about whether or not her family or friends would be okay. It's almost like that life belonged to another girl that Elena knew for just a little while before they drifted apart. But she's not entirely evaporated. Before too long, the allure of all the sights and sounds catches Elena's attention and she sets aside trying to find where the maid told her to go. She almost tries to justify it - she needs to see if there's anyone she recognizes and, if not, at least make a friend or two. But Elena quickly realizes the truth is that she just wants to listen to some music and eat some cotton candy. She wants just a normal abnormal day.
