I could tldr alone on how Dirk feels about Hal. While he expresses regret at times about Hal, I think a lot of it is more directed at his own choices. Because knows he pretty much kinda screwed Hal out of any kind of life he could have had if he'd been made later in a place he COULD grow. There's also a lot of complications when it comes to Dirk's own power. But he likes and trusts ???, something I cover in my tldr about him.
