The TL;CR Meme

one: post with your characters.
two: respond to other people's characters with your characters.
three: they tell you in detail what their character thinks of your character. TL;DR is encouraged; that's how this works.
four; optional: discuss it with them if you want! Make a big chain of tl;dr if you're up to it.
five: other people do the same thing to you! Maybe you even harvest your tl;dr to use in a CR chart later.
six: keep checking back in so that no one is ever late!

(Shamelessly gakked from places.)

I may have done that on purpose.

Dave is the alpha, he's real, and he's important. And, on one level, Davesprite knows way more about that than Dave ever will, because he is (or was, in this case) a game construct. He knows what Sburb wanted from them, the whole point of their fucking quest and self-growth.

It's a pretty surreal experience, obviously. Especially seeing who you were four months ago (or more, with time travel) and realizing. Oh. You're not like that anymore, not exactly. I kind of have the headcanon that a lot of their conversations are Davesprite humoring Dave (and himself, because come on, it's nice to joke around after four months of hell) and weirdly appreciating how he used to be. Like, christ were you dumb, but you missed this kind of dumb. And Davesprite knows Dave's success is essentially his own success—his friends' success—even if he's no longer the perpetrator. So he helps him out and is, honestly, duty-bound to protect him at all costs.

But the thing is Dave doesn't need Davesprite to protect him. And Davesprite knows that, which is why he was so willing to part ways and find Bro. When he isn't needed, Davesprite takes that as his cue to move on, and that makes him markedly different from Dave. And he acknowledges Dave is able to grow and change in ways he can't (see: god tier), which is a good thing in his mind. He applies a pretty strange, layered logic to the way he perceives good things for Dave, actually. Because, technically, good things for Dave means bad things for himself. It would probably make a lot of people bitter, but he isn't, at least not towards Dave. It's just the way things are.

It might stem from the fact that, despite everything, even if he wishes he could have been the real Dave—for Jade, at least, or if it meant he were best bros with John again and didn't have this weird existential freakout hanging over his head—he draws a pretty sharp line in the sand where Dave ends and he begins. And after seeing what happened to Jadesprite (and maybe especially if/when he finds out what happened with Rose), he doesn't want to give up his autonomy. If he exists, he wants to genuinely exist, not as some fragmented memories floating around here and there. He's also pretty sure Dave is way better off without any of his issues. Though, ngl, Dave's behavior does sometimes awkwardly swing between making him want to act differently or lapse into the same thing. Because his identity issues weren't complex enough.

But when Davesprite looks at Dave, he sees someone he was this fucking close to becoming and there's almost a little regret there. Maybe. But that also means there's this really bizarre, visceral sort of trust, which is probably why he felt so weirdly betrayed when it came out that Dave and Terezi fucked. Davesprite trusts Dave to always do what needs to be done, to take care of what needs to happen, and above all he trusts him to do what's right for their friends. It's kind of a heavy burden and he doesn't really want Dave to shoulder it alone, but he thinks he can handle it. And if he ever does need help, Davesprite's still got his back.
