Margaret Houlihan | M*A*S*H - I have no idea what I'm doing
She's not fine about any of this, but like hell she's going to show it. Instead, she pulls herself together and helps a mother - ostensibly by freeing her hands of her child - so the woman can right her cart. Gods and wars wars be damned, the lot of them. She shakes her head, frowning, as her small charge starts to bawl.]
Believe me [her voice is dry and she bounces the child gently] I know what you mean. I'm out a three day pass to Tokyo.

He stops in his tracks and stares for a little while, only to be shaken out of his shock by another tremor. A hand against a nearby wall keeps him from toppling over, and then helps propel him forward to grab hold of Margaret and the baby to keep them from falling over.
Hawk's voice is tinged with false amusement, and he manages a small smile.]
Hi, Margaret. Welcome to the party. Looks like your dance card's already filled.
no subject
As far as parties go, I was hoping for something entirely different preferably involving a bathtub in Tokyo.
[The soft laugh of disbelief shook free a second later. He's familiar in a way nothing is and it almost hurts. The Native taps her arm, taking the little boy from her with a nod and a muted thanks, freeing Margaret to-- To what? Find a smart crack, if she can scramble for it. Margaret does her best to put a less bewildered expression on her face, but it says enough that she doesn't quite let go.]
This isn't Tokyo, Pierce, not by a long shot.
no subject
It's not? And here I just thought they redecorated.
[He smiles down at her, trying to be a relaxing presence. Very few people know Margaret like he does, and one thing he knows is when she's trying very hard not to go into hysterics.]
Relax, Margaret, you've just found yourself in another war. On the bright side, it's one with a lot better accommodations.
no subject
[She lets out something that's fairly close to a smothered laugh and glances skyward. Some things never really change. Take a wisecrack out of one war, throw him into another with entirely different rules and he just keeps on cracking. Then again, his sense of humor has always been a treat -- even when she's the butt of it. The tactic works far better than she might have thought, but she takes a moment anyway.]
Anything's better than a tent, though I might prefer that the ground stop shaking. [A smile gathers at the corners of her lips.] Leave a martini along long enough around here and it could mix itself.
no subject
[The continued worsening of the situation worries him, but he tries not to think too hard about that. Instead, he snatches up her wrist to look at her bracelet.]
Now then, Margaret, let's see which of these gods has taken a shine to you.
no subject
Heimdall [she says almost flatly] whoever that is. And what am I supposed to do with a god power? [It was insane, really. Powers. She was a head nurse, the only power she had was sheer commanding presence. It was the only thing she needed, too.] It sounds ridiculous.
[If she was being honest, the panic was giving way to just plain anger. How dare they rip her away from her own world with its own rules and throw her here? It was absurd.]
no subject
[He holds his hands out in front of him and wiggles his fingers with a grin.]
If only Father Mulcahy can see me now, with my laying on of hands. He might bite right through his rosary.
no subject
Well. The only thing to do about it is learn how to use it and hope it'll make a difference. [she eyes him for a long moment.] How long have you been here?
[And honestly, if Pierce is still here then getting home isn't as easy as "You've made a terrible mistake, now send me home."]
no subject
[His smile is fond, gentle. Knowing her, she'll have the whole city whipped into shape.]
Oh, well, the calendar's a bit different around here, but I think... maybe two, three months?
no subject
Well, going home's not an option, if you've been here that long. I could just about kill for a good cup of coffee. [And this place is certainly no Korea.]
no subject
Ah! Now that is something this war has over the sludge they served back home. No road kill du jour for us. There's decent food and decent coffee. C'mon.
[Hawkeye tugs her by the arm down the road towards a little cafe.]
no subject
That's two things that just might make this place bearable. How good is the coffee? [Because there's good coffee and then there's good coffee -- the kind you can sit and sip with the sun coming through the window on a cool Spring morning and-- She mentally shakes herself. Not too long before she finds out, at any rate.]
no subject
[He opens the door for her and motions for her to head in first, then directs her to a nice table. Not near the window. Not today, at least. With all the shaking, he didn't want to risk sitting by it if the window shattered.
Hawk orders two coffees and looks across the little table at her, taking in her features with a content smile.]
It's been far too long since I've seen anyone from home. It really is good to see you, Margaret.
no subject
Now she just-- She wondered if he was okay.]
Well. [Margaret nodded again, decisively.] I'm glad there's something good about this besides the coffee. [Look at her, making a joke.]
